Despite war and occupation, Iraq has seen a surge in human rights groups, political parties and independent media - entities almost unheard of under Saddam Hussein. The report by Egypt's Ibn Khaldoun Center for Development Studies was careful not to credit USA for the progress. The report reviews civil society, democratization, and minorities in 19 Arab nations. Does the Center believe this blossoming of Iraq's civil society had no help? Who kicked out Saddam and helped usher in this progress? Will Western liberal media highlight this report? Uh, no.
