Commentary (Chicago Tribune)
The liberal commentator says that had Cos chosen milder language for his recent controversial comments of what keeps poor black folks poor, folks would've ignored him. Bill Cosby is really issuing a call to action to black folks to step up to the plate and take back our communities. Mr. Page is particularly glad to see Mr. Cosby dismiss the widely heard concern that he was giving white conservatives ammunition to trash black folks. He says, "We, who happen to be African-American parents, in particular, need to stop worrying about what white conservative talk-show hosts, for example, think about us and start talking about what we are doing to ourselves."
Amen, Brotha Clarence! Many white folks will be white folks anyway, so can we be obsessed about our future? Black folks of all ideologies can increase school mentors, pressure black kids to learn, protest thuggish music videos, and other things to help young folks grow up with strong values without being a millionaire like Mr. Cosby.
