Commentary (Denver Post)
Former Denver Bronco Reggie Rivers argues that the military is one of the last bastions of slavery in America.
What utter drivel in this article, which trivializes slavery big time. One doesn't volunteer for slavery! That a descendant of slaves wrote this crap is even more troublesome. Uh, several differences Reg: (1) people volunteer to serve in the military (hello, contract -- a word with which Mr. Rivers should be familiar); (2) they are paid for their labor, even learning useful skills for upward mobility when they return to civilian life; and (3) they are free to leave or re-enlist once their tour of duty is up. Heck, they can even go AWOL without facing death. You think your great-great grandparents had these options? Puhleeze brotha, don't step with this crap!
