The U.S. and five Central American countries (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua) signed a free trade agreement. The Dominican Republic will soon join the pact. However, CAFTA faces stiff opposition in Congress because many Democrats contend it doesn't protect U.S. workers from unfair competition from low-wage countries. We say doing a job just as well but cheaper ain't "unfair" competition, but common sense efficiency that enables us to focus on areas where we excel.
