Former NFL great Lynn Swann is chair of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports. He's been stumping for Dubya's re-election. What he told the media in Pennsylvania, a key swing state, in April:
"I think he will attract more votes this time if the African-American community spends more time looking and investigating this candidate and John Kerry - and not just being led to a Democratic polling place."
Mr. Swann has four Super Bowl champs rings (Pittsburgh Steelers) and was 1976 Super Bowl MVP. In addition to his President's Council work, he is an ABC Sports football commentator and a spokesman for Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America. Mr. Swann is a graduate of the University of Southern California, with a degree in public relations. Our question: why wasn't Mr. Swann rather than zany Don King part of the GOP's recent "black empowerment tour"? And why ain't he in an ad? Hello?
