DEBORAH PERRY COMMENTARY: Why I Identify With the Republican Party

An excerpt that we received by email:

"You are what you project." I will not play the victim, and for those who do, they shall be treated as victims. This is the predominant reason why I identify with the Republican Party. I take responsibility for who I am, and government cannot mandate my place in society or in work. I have to work hard, just like everyone else. Republicans believe in the equality of all people, and that individuals should be judged by their abilities, not whether you are a man or woman, or of Native American, Hispanic, African-American, European, or Asian descent. All people are to be treated equally, period!

In addition to equality, the Republican Party embodies a pragmatic balance between government and individuals, and offers a platform of positions that are in sync with the way I want to live my life: less government, lower taxes, protection of the family, a stronger educational system, and tougher criminal laws. Less government means living in a society free of a Big Brother-style government, and allowing me more freedom to pursue my American dream. Lower taxes means that Republicans trust you to do a much better job managing the money you earn, more so than the government can. We know what happens when Americans take more money home in their paychecks. It makes the economy flourish.

Taking responsibility also means protecting the sanctity of human life, and when my family ages, Republicans want a Social Security and Medicare system that ensures me to get the best return on my investment. A stronger public educational system through the control of the local government is what the Republican Party believes in, and not through some massive bureaucracy that applies a one-size-fits-all approach to your child's education whether you live in Miami, Florida, Painesville, Iowa, or anywhere else on the map. Republicans want you and your family to be safe at home, on the streets, and in your communities, and they believe in touch law enforcement, with stiff penalties, no loopholes, and judges who respect the rights of law-abiding citizens....
