Florida had the 4th-highest black population in 2000. The state has now moved past California and Texas. Many of the 292,100 blacks who moved to Florida over that period are from the Caribbean or are of Caribbean descent. The decade-old trend of native-born blacks returning to the South has now extended to Florida and also contributed to the black population boost.
