BOOKER RISING AWARDS: Bookerista To Watch 2005

The honor goes to Adam Afriyie of Britain. The Conservative Party branch chairman and tech company owner is running for a parliamentary seat in next year’s elections. Assuming that he wins - he is running in a “safe” seat - look for him to become the J.C. Watts of Britain. With his youth, charisma, and business savvy, the millionaire businessman is touted as the future of the Conservative Party, which has been in a rut of late due to its graying supporters. His addition means that Britain will have two black conservative politicians on the national scene (the other, Lord John Taylor, is in the House of Lords - an appointed body). This will expand the visibility of black conservatives in the U.K.
