The leftist commentator discusses (1) the physical deterioration of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change in Atlanta - which needs $12 million for repairs; and (2) the faltering drive for a King National Monument in D.C., where $70 million more must be privately raised before next year's deadline. While putting part of the blame on the King family, Mr. Hutchinson argues that these financial troubles are inexcusable given the number of wealthy blacks and that almost 50% of blacks are now middle class.
As we've noted here before, we agree. Given our $728 billion per year GDP, we can certainly afford to do so. However, many (if not most) blacks are unaware of these financial troubles. To help out, click here and here.
