Reggie Fowler is ready to buy the Minnesota Vikings from Red McCombs. Despite a low profile, the Arizona grocery store supplier - and former University of Wyoming linebacker who briefly played with the Cincinnati Bengals - said that it is "a great thing" to perhaps become the football league's first black owner, but not that big of a deal. "[Red McCombs] did not discount the price because of that," Mr. Fowler said, laughing. He declined to reveal how much he would pay for the team, but published reports and a rival bidder put it at about $625 million. Mr. Fowler's net worth is estimated at more than $400 million, and his investors group includes three limited partners based on the East Coast. Approval of the deal by other NFL owners is scheduled for next month.
