“[Bill] Cosby is harshly saying things that need to be said (even if he is not a sinless messenger). African Americans need to spend more energy taking care of business than searching for reasons to feel victimized and therefore excused. Racism will not end tomorrow (or ever perhaps); that gives us more reason not to engage in self-destructive behavior and counter-productive activities. Parents must take control over their children and ensure that kids learn in school. Parents should also work at exposing their children to knowledge outside of classroom. My working-class grandparents provided books, encyclopedias, magazines and all sorts of things to me in the home. When I go to a public library in the neighborhood I grew up in I see poor Asian families encouraging their children to study. Nothing prevents black people from doing these things. Government can (and should) help people but people have to step up before social action can be effective." - Daniel Aldridge, black moderate-liberal Democrat and reader of Booker Rising blog
