What Manner Of Country?

Chippla Vandu comments on corruption in Nigeria. The Nigerian-born libertarian blogger writes: "This is a country where contracts are all too often awarded to the kids of Cabinet Ministers, Governors and Parliamentarians despite the presence of laws militating against this. This is a country where the Police, rather than being enforcers of the law are its prime breakers. This is a country where elected State Governors have made it a point of duty to empty their state treasuries before leaving office. Where being a State Governor has become synonymous with buying mansions in London and Maryland (United States). This is a country where Politics has been elevated to a sort of religion. Where the president comes out in the open to let his subjects know that a feud is ongoing between himself and his deputy. This is a country whose citizens have taken Online Scamming to a new level and added a new word to the ever expanding English lexicon – 'four-one-nine'. This is a country where people often kill themselves over such issues as Ethnic Identity and Religious Belief, while their leaders (to whom these concepts have little meaning) amass wealth beyond belief. This is a country where Traditional Rulers, meant to be custodians of culture, have become like vacillating shrubs moving where ere the wind blows. This is a country where Leading Parliamentarians have all too often been brought down by charges of fraud and embezzlement. This is a country where the environment has been abused and degraded by leading Oil Multinationals affecting the livelihood of millions. But who cares. Money speaks and the multinationals end up having their way. This is a country that is now trying to change, albeit slowly – maybe a generation, or two or ten or a hundred. Who knows? This country has just been ranked the sixth most corrupt in the world by Transparency International. And guess what? It is rejoicing."

Sixth place is better than 1st or 2nd place, although is Nigeria getting less corrupt, or a few other nations got even more corrupt?
