Clarence Thomas Is Not Black?

Christopher Arps, a black conservative Republican blogger, writes: "It is absolutely outrageous for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to suggest that an asterisk be placed next to the name of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas when discussing the racial makeup of the court. The paper suggested today that Thomas is not black because he "arguably does not represent the views of mainstream black America." Regardless of how you feel about Thomas personally or his beliefs, how dare a white, liberal, editorial board sit in its ivory tower and decide who is and isn't black. During the lead up to the Millions More March, controversy erupted when Jewish leaders suggested that Farrakhan should not be given a prominent role at the event. Russell Simmons, Al Sharpton, and a host of others, were outraged that outsiders were attempting to determine our leaders. These 'leaders' should have that same indignation towards the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editorial board."

That's because other folks can be ideologically diverse, but not black folks. And good tie-in with Cobb's quote above about the political one-drop rule.
