Rod Paige, the black conservative Republican who was U.S. Secretary of Education from 2001 to 2005, has produced The War Against Hope: How Teachers' Unions Hurt Children, Hinder Teachers, and Endanger Public Education. He argues that teachers' unions selfishly shackle our students to a failing education system. He discusses how unions stop education reform, hinder successful teachers, shackle children to an unjust status quo, and then profit from political activism and bureaucratic inertia. Mr. Paige also outlines how parents, teachers, school boards, and local businesses can work together for reform to build a better education system for our children and the future of America.
