Angela Winters on Democrats & Race

The black moderate blogger writes about the Democratic presidential race: "Based on the media coverage this back and forth over MLK and race between Clinton and Obama's camps is becoming the issue going into South Carolina. Why am I not surprised that race takes the front stage in the S.C.? Ultimately this hurts Clinton more than Obama, but it hurts Democrats in the long run. That is unless they go overboard and white female sympathy for Hills makes a comeback. They will also turn away Dems of any race who feel Obama's supporters are complaining about every word that could possibly be construed as racist. Republicans are salivating over this. They don't have any candidates that the people find more interesting than these two, so they only hope they have is that the Dems do themselves in, which let's face it, is their specialty."

My response: Thanks to one of my readers for alerting me to this poll in another thread. Rasmussen Reports states: "The race for the Democratic Nomination has been narrowed to a two-person competition between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Rasmussen Markets data shows both candidates are considered to have a good shot at the nomination. Somewhat surprisingly, as the campaign has tightened, racial tensions have bubbled to the surface with the two camps exchanging accusations. Those tensions are reflected in this week’s polling data. Overall, Clinton and Obama are close nationally in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll. But, among white voters, Clinton leads 41% to 27%. Among African-American voters, Obama leads 66% to 16%."
