on Obama's Gore Problem

The moderate-conservative Republican commentator writes: "The word I haven't heard in all of the horserace commentary yesterday, and I heard a lot of it, was 'superdelegate'. Thanks to a thought[f]ul reader, I have been hipped to the scam. It's the very kind of thing that Democrats would not let go of in 2000, controls to the popular vote. A superdelegate is essentially a delegate to the Democratic nominating convention that doesn't need to be bound by the results of the primaries and caucuses. It's the Democrat's own little electoral college. So what if Obama won the popular vote in Iowa, the superdelegates from the state don't have to commit to him. This means that despite the fact that Obama won the del[e]gates and popular vote (by not such a big margin as you think), Iowa still isn't in the bag for Barack. Check out this 'As Iowa is concerned: 'Out of 45 delegates available, Obama 16, Clinton 15, Edwards 14. That's it.' Now that I've saved 50 bucks (which I would have gladly paid), I think it's time to get real."
