Ripclawe, a black conservative Republican blogger, discusses last night's Democratic presidential debate in Philadelphia: "You know it was a good debate when leftist pacifist editor of the media apologist Editor and Publisher is unhappy because ABC dared to ask questions on issues that put Obama in a bad light [by asking him about his "bitter" gaffe, his relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, not wearing a flag pin, and his alleged ties to an unrepetent, former Weather Underground terrorist]...Ah, moderate conservative [David] Brooks liked it so it had to be bad. This is how short-sighted leftists are when it comes to debates. You can either have Clinton and Obama who on issues are nothing by small variations apart which means all you get are stump speech answers making a very boring debate ala the CNN version in Hollywood a couple of months back. The other way is to bring up the controversial stuff which shows if either one can fight back against it. Obama failed and Hillary at this point people finally have pegged her as a shameless liar. What do you want to know about Iraq from either one? Black Jesus wants to surrender and Hillary too. Health care? Both want socialist universal system and on taxes soak anyone making making [sic] and hand out more welfare checks. Immigration? Open borders please. Everything in a nutshell. You think Mitchell would say the same if Republicans were in the debate? No, what is pissing him and other leftists like Keith Olbermann off is Black Jesus got caught and was flat footed in the debate."
My response: I saw much, but not all, of last night's Democratic presidential debate. I thought ABC did a great job, even though I raised my eyebrow at George Stephanopoulos - a former aide to the administration of Sen. Clinton's husband - being a moderator. The debate had tough or uncomfortable questions for the candidates, and the moderates didn't allow candidates to skate around questions. I didn't catch the controversial issues bit, so I can't comment there. From what I saw, there were two questions that I can recall where Sen. Obama was straight up flat footed was on taxes. He pledged to not raise any taxes on people making under $250,000, and then just minutes later said he wanted to raise the payroll tax cap (which is currently at $97,000). I believe that Sen. Clinton won the debate portion that I saw though, because she was more specific and seemed to have more control of the issues.
