Biden, Lousy Pick...

Biden, Asserts Kaligula over at Freedom Democrats, a blog for libertarian Democrats: "Obviously, from a libertarian policy standpoint, Biden generally sucks. There is no need to rehash all that here, it's been done elsewhere. However, just from a strategical point of view, I think Biden sucks as well. This election should be a blowout if it's framed as a referendum on George Bush and the Republicans; however, if it[s] focus shifts to the 'national [s]ecurity' bona fides and experience factor of Team Obama, then Obama likely loses. Contrary to this laughable addle-headed nonsense that purportedly passes for punditry, if Obama needs to rely on Joe Biden to reframe the terms of the debate, then Obama is going to be on the wrong side of extra crispy come November 5th. The fact is that the second-stringer on the presidential ticket is largely inconsequential in terms of actually influencing voter opinions of the first stringer one way or another (reference Dan Quayle and Lloyd Benson). The only significance of Biden is that his selection portends a post-labor day general election strategy that more or less concedes the home turf to McCain and the Republicans. Frankly, I see Mr Hair Club for Men's monday morning quarterbacking bloviations about his tripartite Iraq partition plan being perfect fodder for Mr. POW and his 'Iraqi Surge Strategy.' For Democrats, that's not the debate you want."

Kaligula adds: "Obama's campaign slogan has gone from 'Change we can believe in' to 'Trust Me, not really that much Change.' I'd put the odds now at almost even in terms of who will win. I still give a slight advantage to Obama because of all the new registered voters that Obama and Clinton brought in during the Democratic primaries and the fact that the GOP brand is still in the toilet."
