I read about Sen. Barack Obama getting heckled at an event - in a city where I spent half of my childhood, no less - and I immediately thought it was some right-wingers taunting the liberal Democratic politician. The city is a conservative stronghold, or it was when I lived there, so no surprise. Nope. These are left-wingers, who claim that Barry hasn't "focused enough" on black issues. Knowing good ol' St. Pete, Florida - where I still have some relatives - I immediately thought that surely the local Uhurus had something to do with this stunt. The Uhurus did not disappoint me, as it turns out that these hardcore Marxists were indeed behind it.
Six black protesters heckled Sen. Barack Obama during a town hall meeting in the Sunshine City, first unfurling a banner that read: "What about the black community, Obama?" However, the crowd booed them down and Sen. Obama asked them to display some home training and be curteous and respectful. More heckling, but then Sen. Obama took a question from one of them. They complained about police killings of black men in St. Pete and New York City, and so-called "predatory lending". "Why is it you have not had the courtesy for one time to speak on interests of the oppressed and exploited black community in this nation?" never mind that Sen. Obama has discussed these issues, but I digress. They kept displaying a lack of home training by repeatedly preventing other folks from asking their questions during the Q and A session. The Uhurus' chair, Omali Yeshitela, denounces Sen. Obama in YouTube videos as "white power in black face."
I was reminded of Juliette Ochieng's recent commentary that so many black leftists are looking for a quid pro quo that when Sen. Obama is viewed as even mildly discussing other issues besides racism (i.e., keeping whites "on the hook") or even mildly proposing that black folks are capable of standing on our own two feet without government holding our hand, they whine. However, Sen. Barack Obama getting heckled by a bunch of hardcore Marxists only helps his campaign.

I don't know if I agree that they help Obama. Down here lots of white folks assume that the Uhurus speak for all black people. And down here most people hate the Uhurus.
You can't blame them though. The media run to Omali when they want a quote from "a black perspective". Black neighborhood leaders get burned up but never speak out. People from other neighborhoods scratch their heads and ask why "they want to burn down their own neighborhood?"
IMHO the Times do a poor job of reporting on them and TV follows their lead.
Many of them are leftists, communists, revolutionaries. A lot of them are in it for the money.
I am more concerned with the drug dealers and street thugs that work with them to riot for fun and profit. Within weeks they plan an all out effort to start a riot the day the state attorney reports that an officer was justified in shooting a black teenager.
This violence kills our community. Property on busy streets sits vacant because no one wants to invest here. Good people save their money and move out.
