Well, Allyson Felix - the daughter of an acquaintance of mine - got silver again in the 200-meter-dash (21.93 seconds), while Veronica Campbell-Brown (21.74) successfully defended her Olympic title. Jamaica's Kerron Stewart - who got co-silver in the 100-meter-dash - got bronze (22.00)...barely holding off Muna Lee (who ran a personal best) by .01 second. The look on Allyson's face (#3167) says it all though. In this (declining) age of the muscular sprinter, 2nd and 4th place in the world ain't bad for the slender chicks. Kudos.
I stated earlier this week that Allyson's Achilles heel is her start. Sure enough, that hurt her in this race. However, she was able to overcome her poor start and chase down folks - her biggest strength - to get silver. Had she had a good start, I ain't sure that Mrs. Campbell-Brown would have won again. Allyson is only 22 years old, so her Olympic golden time may come in the future.
Ah, even more gloating from the Jamericans. My head is busting from all their gloating this week.
OLYMPIC TRACK & FIELD WATCH: Good Going, Allyson!
