Tyler Perry made history in Atlanta on Saturday night, becoming the first black American to launch a major television and film studio. However, everything is not all peachy for Mr. Perry. Outside, four writers of his sitcom "House Of Payne" who were fired after they tried to get a union contract with Mr. Tyler’s production company and Writer’s Guild supporters picketed the celebrity-studded event.
Mr. Perry’s new studio occupies the 200,000-square-foot building that Delta Airlines once called its headquarters.
My response: Why doesn't Oprah Winfrey's Harpo Productions here in Chicago count?! Even though I don't like Mr. Perry's movies or television shows, I can't hate on this achievement. Kudos. Hopefully, he'll put out better product.
