MYCHAL MASSIE COMMENTARY: Defending Blacks From Homosexuals

The conservative Republican commentator opines about gay anger surrounding African American support which helped the passage of Proposition 8 in California, which bans gay marriage: "Homosexual activist Wayne Besen goes so far as to take his anger and hatred for normality out on blacks who oppose same-sex marriage, calling them 'particularly appalling and ignorant.' He, like others, is attempting to equate the issue with civil rights – falsely claiming that they are synonymous. Homosexual marriage and black civil rights are not the same, and to claim that they are is not only scurrilous, but morally opprobrious on its face.....There were homosexuals and Klansmen chairing committees in Congress long before there was a black president. They latch onto the civil rights movement because their movement cannot stand on its own. They are only interested in using said movement to further their own condemnable agenda."

He continues his commentary: "As I have also argued, the homosexual agenda is not interested in marriage unions, as such – it is much more sinister – they are committed to redefining the family, undermining the church and devolving the very foundations of our nation. Rejection of same-sex marriage should not be viewed as a blanket rejection of the homosexual as a person, but it should be understood as a rejection of that which they advocate. Many heterosexuals who live together sans marriage take requisite steps to ensure relational safeguards consistent with being personally responsible. They obtain insurances and assign beneficiaries, they have wills, they establish legally binding instructions pursuant to access and decision making authority should they become incapacitated, and more. These same options are available to homosexuals without a same-sex marriage mandate being forced on society. Blacks who subscribe to higher moral convictions are not xenophobic, nor are they necessarily anti-homosexual as such. Instead of advancing an agenda aimed at destabilizing society, homosexuals should enjoy all of the rights available to everyone living outside marriage, except the right to redefine marriage and family."

UPDATE: Boy, you never know who is reading your blog. Wayne Besen has emailed Booker Rising, arguing that Mr. Massie took his quote out of context. You can see Mr. Besen's email below.

In Mychal Massie's World Net Daily article today, he erroneously claims that I call blacks who oppose same sex marriage, "particularly appalling and ignorant." This is a misquote or an outright lie and is not something that I have ever said or written. If you google the term "particularly appalling and ignorant" with my name - the only reference you will find is Massie's dishonest piece. The actual quote that he botched is:

"Still, there is something particularly galling and repugnant about people who have felt the sting of discrimination, turn around and step on another minority. What happened at the ballot box feels like a personal betrayal and the hijacking of history."

It is one thing for Massie to have his opinion and quite another to invent fake quotes in the pursuit of defamation. What he has done is journalistic malpractice and an insidious smear designed to damage and injure my reputation. I will not allow it to stand and will take swift and appropriate action to clear my name and ensure people see his poor journalistic "standards." I look forward to World Net Daily correcting the record and offering an apology.
