The donation to the historically black fraternity - which was given today in Miami - is to go to the Alpha Phi Alpha Charitable Foundation to provide resources including scholarships for young U.S. black males who seek to pursue a career in education. More specifically, teaching, an area dear to the moderate Republican.
Sen. Brooke, who is an Alpha, said, "African American male teachers in public schools are needed in order to curtail the imbalance between the number of African American males currently in jail and rather than in college."
Sen. Brooke, 89, was the first black person to be elected to the U.S. Senate since Reconstruction. He represented the state of Massachusetts from 1967 to 1979.
My response: I have two cousin who are Alphas, one of whom was recently an officer for the big Chicago alumni chapter. I'm sure they'll love this donation, even though it's coming from a Republican LOL. Any Alphas among my readers?
