Alaska Governor Sarah Palin helped push the Republican Party farther to the right this election – a polarization which could lead to the downfall of the party, insists Colin Powell. “Gov. Palin, to some extent, pushed the party more to the right, and I think she had something of a polarizing effect when she talked about how small-town values are good,” the moderate Republican told CNN in an interview that will air on Sunday. “Well, most of us don’t live in small towns. And I was raised in the South Bronx, and there’s nothing wrong with my value system from the South Bronx.” Mr. Powell added: “It was that attempt by the party to use polarization for political advantage that I think backfired.”
“There’s nothing wrong with being conservative … but if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities,” like it has to woo blacks and Hispanics, who are quickly becoming the majority in this country, argued the former Secretary of State. “I think the Republican Party needs to stop shouting at the world and the country … the party has to take a hard look at itself,” he sad.
The former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff also said fellow Republicans should stop listening to conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh, and USA should rethink the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy regarding gays in the military.
Booker Rising response: While we're on the topic of Brotha Colin, it should be noted that he has helped raise $1 million for the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial planned for the National Mall...on top of his own $10,000 donation. Good going, Mr. Powell. The memorial has raised $102 million of the needed $120 million.

It is impossible for the more conservative party to appeal to blacks and Hispanics. They are the two most liberal groups in the U.S. Outside of the criminal justice system, blacks and Hispnaics consistently support bigger, more invasive government. It costs the Repulbicans many white vote to win a single minority vote. See the Bush push on open borders, unlimited immigration, and amnesty for all illegal aliens. It lost white voters but gain no Hispanic votes.
The same will occur if the Repubicans suddenly become accepting of quotas, minority setaside, separate and unequal college admissions standards, 8a contracts, etc.
Colin Powell was a quota black for the Republican Party and is more loyal to blacks and to conservative ideals. Powell has just been willing to admit it lately.
