A Real Head Scratcher

Avery Tooley, a black moderate-conservative bloger, discusses sex and culture: "Not like American sex is somehow different than that which is practiced in the rest of the world, but we act like it is. That is, in many places in the world, things we see as taboo, like naked breasts, are seen regularly on TV. Given that, it would seem to follow that issues like teen pregnancy would be less of a problem. But that’s not all there is to it. It can’t be. Some folks are concerned about the low birth rates of Europeans in their home countries, thinking that it paves the way for some type of immigrant takeover. Yeah, yeah, that’s interesting, but I’m more interested in putting that together with the lower rate of teen pregnancy in those countries. Is there something cultural at play in the way they regard sex that makes them less-likely to have babies? If I remember correctly, the abortion rate here is higher than it is in many of those countries. That’s kinda curious to me. It seems counter intuitive [sic] that countries with more permissive social standards would have lower rates of consequence, but that’s exactly what we see. What I wanna know is why."
