The African Executive, a libertarian website based in Kenya, writes: "Kenya's President Kibaki's assent to the controversial media bill that gives the minister for internal security power to raid media houses and confiscate broadcasting equipment is retrogressive. Journalists in Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe (amongst other countries in Africa) have faced the wrath of the governments that are keen to shield their people from the truth. A number of journalists have been jailed, forced into exile and even killed. Failing to heed to the pleas of the citizenry is not a good move. Furthermore, going an extra mile to circulate propaganda leaflets against the media in the streets by the government is an immoral act of disinformation."
