OK, by obvious popular demand, here's a post about the Miss-USA-pageant-and-gay-marriage controversy. Ms. Nykol, a conservative blogger, writes: "Fox News (and a million other media outlets) reports: 'When asked by judge Perez Hilton, an openly gay gossip blogger, whether she believed in gay marriage, Miss California, Carrie Prejean, said 'We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite. And you know what, I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised.' A little wobbly on her stance, but she got it out and that's what counts. And now the furor has begun. I absolutely love it! The Miss USA organization's executives have released statements of 'embarrassment' regarding Prejean's comments. No big surprise there. The Miss USA pageant is owned by Donald Trump -- a model of morality if I ever saw one. What's more, it's widely-known that the biggest contingency of pageant fans is homosexual men. You can imagine the hubbub her comments are causing."
She continues: "Why folks are shocked though is beyond me. Pageants contestants are known as being some of the most conservative around. I'm not sure what the big deal is. The woman was asked a question and she answered it the same way the majority of Californians (Black, White, Hispanic, you name it) did this past election when Proposition 8 was on the table. She's entitled to her opinion right? Despite what Hollywood leads us to believe, Prejean's opinion is actually widely held my many Americans -- including many of those who voted for President Obama. And what business does that question have in a pageant anyway?"

What happened at the Miss. America Pageant is a travesty that has no place in a beauty competition.
First of all the question and answer portion of the competition is designed to show how well a contestant handles herself in an impromptu setting such as an interview. She is to be judged on her composure, the articulation of her answer, her ability to process information quickly and respond in an intelligent manner in an interview and not on whether her answer is politically correct.
The answer given by Miss. California was concise and delivered in a professional manner. She was confident in her response with little or no hesitation and only one minor slip referring to “in my country” that should not have cost her the crown.
The young man (and I use that term loosely) that offered the question should be banned from any and all judgment panels. He used his position to obviously advance his own political agenda on the national stage. Judges should be impartial in their evaluation which was absolutely not the case here. Clearly the individual who asked the question was not impartial. Have panelists always been able to offer questions that are so politically charged as the one given Sunday?
In addition to this, an interview with “Mr.” Hilton revealed his true character and lack of intelligence as he referred to the contestant in words that clearly exhibit his limited vocabulary and crude nature. He admitted on national television that her answer to his question cost her the crown and has been echoed by anchors all over the country.
In this instance, Miss. California has a cause of action against the Miss. America Pageant Board for being discriminatory in their judging. Miss. California was blatantly discriminated against because of her sexual preference and religious convictions. The bill of rights works both ways Mr. Hilton (pun intended). Furthermore, if the pageant receives any funding from the federal government, it should be disqualified from any further funding because of its prejudice and discriminatory practices.
Turn the table and imagine if you will, had a Christian right wing judge offered a politically charged and morally slanted question. That judge would be fried by the left wing media. Or if an openly lesbian contestant spoke out for same sex marriages and lost the pageant because of the statement. She would be defended completely by the same left wing media.
These young women are not running for political office for goodness sake they are in a “beauty pageant”
