Gay Marriage Follies

This is Secret Service removing Brenda Lee from near Air Force One after she attempted to give President Obama a letter this afternoon at Los Angeles International Airport (he was 10 minutes away) and protested her removal (hat tip: Barack Obama's Teleprompter's Blog). Ms. Lee, a writer for a small Georgia newspaper, wanted to give him a letter opposing gay marriage and urging him "to take a stand for traditional marriage."

She said that she is a "Roman Catholic priestess" who lives in Anaheim, Calif. She said she has White House press credential, and said this was the second presidential event she has covered. Ms. Lee was released after being questioned.

While we're on the subject of gay marriage, do you know that folks are holding a march from Selma, California to Fresno, California? Pimping the Civil Rights Movement, I see! There are plans to put gay marriage back on the ballot in 2010, and this time do a big outreach to black folks in hopes that there is no repeat of Proposition 8. Gay activists plan to argue to blacks that gay marriage is a civil right. As someone who supports gay marriage, let me say this: pimping our history is not the way to go. Gay marriage should be argued on its own merits. If the leeching ticks even me off, you know such a strategy will tick off folks whom you wish to persuade.
