The moderate commentator opines about Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's surprise announcement on Friday to resign her position effective on July 26, which has folks speculating about her next move: "Political pundits, particularly conservatives like William Kristol of the Weekly Standard, want to ascribe smart political thinking and strategizing to the Sarah Palin’s decision to resign as governor of Alaska effective the end of July. The simply truth is that she wanted to get out the kitchen. It was just getting too hot. Under investigation for a series of ethics violations and spending her own money to justify her waste of public funds and abuse of authority, Palin decided the only effective defensive was to run for cover. Maybe if she just leaves office, she thought, her critics would leave her alone. Let’s hope not."
She continues her commentary: "In the event, however, some conservatives aren’t convinced, the ethics probes should continue. Resigning shouldn’t shield Palin from accountability. The people of Alaska deserve to know what she did; how and on whom she spent their money; and what they did or didn’t receive from those expenditures. Media reaction to Palin’s resignation suggest, however, that instead of being held accountable, she will be given a pass. After all, she is one of the 'most exciting' conservatives on the scene as one pundit recently put it. Which is not saying much for the state of the Republican Party or the conservative movement in the country."
More: "Palin should realize her 15 minutes have long been up. She should retreat to her plush Wasilla home, be thankful that she had the opportunity to dress well, eat well, and travel widely on someone else’s dime. She has enough stories to tell the grandchildren. She doesn’t need to involve the rest of us in her madness any more. Thank God."
Booker Rising response: As I said on Friday, I'm expecting the other shoe to drop and some scandal to come forth because this move makes no sense. However, a scandal is mere speculation and not fact, as Ms. Barras tries to paint it.
