Rep. Joe Wilson: Bookerista Perspectives

Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) was formally rebuked today by the U.S. House of Representatives for his outburst during U.S. President Barack Obama’s health care address to Congress last week. The mainly party line vote of 240-179 came after a Congressional clash over civility that showcased the deep partisan divisions in the House. The resolution said that the conservative Republican committed a “breach of decorum and degraded the proceedings of the joint session, to the discredit of the House.” Booker Rising agrees, and called for censure last week.

The Office of the House Historian said today's resolution marked the first time in the 220-year history of the House that a member had been admonished for speaking out while the president was giving an address. A resolution of disapproval is less severe than other disciplinary action available to the House, including censure or expulsion. Four bookeristas discuss Rep. Wilson:

Magic Negro Watch: "Silly Negroes Cancel Conference in South Carolina Over Rep. Wilson’s 'You Lie' Remark"

The conservative Republican blog in Lawrence, Kansas, writes about the decision of the National Newspaper Publishers Association - a black organization of newspaper publishers - to show its disapproval of Rep. Joe Wilson's "You Lie" outburst to President Obama by canceling a convention in South Carolina: "Folks I know I sound like a broken record, I say this time and time again, I’m sure some Negro[e]s that have visited this site think I’m some self hater or some other b___t but liberal Negro[e]s are some stupid m____s. Ok... you white people can’t say this s___t, but I can…So let me get this straight, a bunch of Negro[e]s supposedly flexes their muscles by deciding not to come to a given location. As the Newsbusters piece points out South Carolina has one of the largest black populations in the country and I doubt that any of these black folks voted for Joe Wilson. So this collection of Negro[e]s decides to party elsewhere leaving Negro[e]s more broke then they already are. In addition I doubt that any white folks are crying over the absence of a collection of liberal Negro[e]s. Looks like Joe Wilson has done South Carolina a favor. Campaign contributions continue to roll in."

Slyram: "Rep. Joe Wilson, Serena Williams And Kanye West: A Teachable Week"

The moderate Democratic blogger in Georgia says the Obama administration should show the Congressman who's boss
: "Rep. Wilson’s opinions reflect the mindset of his constituents and if people in Washington have a problem with that, they should do what always works — 'mess' with his funding and appropriations requests. That’s how LBJ passed civil rights legislation. You don’t talk trash about powerful people and still expect something from them nor do you stand idly by while people on your side say things you know are not true. Rahm Emanuel has some LBJ in him so don’t be surprise[d] when some Blue Dog Democrats and some Republicans start noticing their beloved projects on the chopping block. Don’t mess with Texas? Please. Don’t mess with that crew from Chicago, the city with big shoulders. They are hard and tough up there. 'You want to reduce the size of government..let’s start with your district and state.' Ouch".

Constructive Feedback: "Rep. Johnson Of Dekalb County GA Fears White Hoods Might Return If Joe Wilson Is Not Checked"

The conservative blogger in Atlanta metro, Ga., wonders why Rep. Johnson (D-Ga.) finds Rep. Wilson's comments more threatening than the trouble brewing in his own district: "This is amazing people. Once again - I cannot control the thoughts in certain Black people's minds nor the words that are inclined to come out of their mouths. The only thing that I can do is to map their views to the real world circumstances that we face as Black people today. It is quite interested that Hank Johnson who represents South Dekalb County in Georgia believes that the people of his district FEAR a person like Joe Wilson when my ample video library would tend to show otherwise. You see people - This is why I do what I do. The Racism Chasers seek to have Black people fear who THEY want us to fear. In turn we lose focus on that which has been the key threat to us. I stand with these people when they correctly analyze a threat. I will confront them when they attempt to use Racism Chasing for political purposes. There have been multiple Black people shot in the back and killed in Metro Atlanta, not triggering a word from Rep Johnson. Why is Joe Wilson's 'kind' a SUPERIOR THREAT to Black people?"

Kenneth Durden: "Democrats Heckle Bush, But That's Okay Because He's A White Guy"

The libertarian-conservative blogger wonders: where was the rebuke when Congressional Democrats heckled former President George W. Bush during his 2005 State Of The Union speech? "I'm a bit sick of the hypocrisy of the Democrats harping on Congressman Joe 'YOU LIE!' Wilson. Certainly, Wilson was out of order, but come on. Just look at this video."

Mr. Durden continues his commentary, arguing there's a double standard: "The Democrats never held back their hatred of George W. Bush. They heckled him during the STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS!!!! You cannot find a more high-profile speech. Unfortunately for Mr. Bush, he couldn't say that it was RAAAAAACISM. BTW, when are we black people going to stop letting Democrats manipulate us and use us as pawns in their power games?"
