The "Time To Be Heard" special show featuring an audience made up of black conservatives aired this evening on Glenn Beck's show on FOX News Channel, and you can watch it here (and here for the last 1/3 or so of the show). Bookeristas react to the show:Clifton B.: "The Glenn Beck Show: The Aftermath"
The conservative blogger in New Jersey, who was in the audience, writes: "Here we are from left to right Adrienne Ross of Motivation: Truth, yours truly from Another Black Conservative and Maria from My Voice on the Wings of Change. Notice I made sure to wear a jacket that had my Right To Life rose on it! Maria is sporting an American flag lapel pin [so anti Obama are we]. As all of you can tell by now I did not get to speak, neither did Maria or Adrienne [believe me guys, we tried]. Sorry for the let down, but those are the breaks. I did not tell you last night because I wanted you to see the show for yourself."
He continues his commentary: "I have to admit; on edit the show was much better than live. During the actual taping it seemed almost like a free for all, jumping from topic to topic. I would have liked to discuss Charles Payne’s story more. His story, is a story known all too well in the black community but never seems to actually get addressed. Payne’s story speaks to that unofficial 'litmus test of black authenticity'. This litmus test is one of the keys that leads to the monolithic voting habit of blacks. I think I will blog on the topic later to fully flesh it out for you. Also, I think Beck’s people might want to tweak their screening process. When I was mingling before the taping, I clearly found people who were not conservative by the wildest stretches of the imagination. Little back-story here, Beck has not fully recovered from his operation. I was surprised how apparent that was in person but hardly detectable on screen. I think if Beck does the show again, a tighter focus of topics would help as well."
Maria: "The Best Part Of Appearing On Glenn Beck"
The conservative blogger, who was also in the audience, comments on the photo pictured above: "Hands down, this was the best part of the trip: meeting fellow blogging conservatives. Above left is Adrienne Ross from Motivation Truth. She is a passionate and unapologetic Sarah Palin supporter. I am truly inspired by her dedication to Truth. In the middle is Clifton from Another Black Conservative. He is as endearing and funny as he is straight-laced and news worthy on his blog. Two excellent conservative bloggers who I admire very much. And there I am on the right. Always cool to meet other bloggers. Especially fellow conservatives!"
She zeroes in on tonight's broadcast, which was taped yesterday: "Well, I found this painful to watch. Can't say I'd do this again unless there is more facilitation and less open floor. In light of Fort Hood, it was like a sucker-punch to hear the pro-Obama sentiments. God bless America."
Positive Viewer Reaction
African American Conservatives blog writes on Twitter: "We applaud @glennbeck today. Fox has needed to have a show like this for a long time. African Americans need to see this on a grand scale." It adds, "The @glennbeck show is sending out the message that we are all about. Black people need to not be afraid to support our conservative values!"
Akindele Akinyemi, a conservative Republican in Detroit, Mich.: "Our conservatives of color are REPRESENTING America. They are kicking the knowledge and are taking a damn stand for once. Regardless of our differences it took a nut like Glenn Beck to bring conservatives of color to discuss urban policy. That's a shame when we have people lying about bringing black people together only for them to slander us because our views are different." He adds, "Today, as much as I dislike Beck's antics he will get 2 thumbs up for putting this on." More: "How come those other black journalists have never done this at any level before? It['s] a damn shame for BECK to do this when Tavis Smiley or Roland Martin could have done this years ago."
Kelly Benston, a conservative in North Carolina, writes on Facebook: "Props go out to Glenn Beck for that great show today. He had a studio audience full of black conservatives and moderates speaking candidly on why they oppose Obama's policies. He won a bunch of cool points from me tonight."
Joyce Jefferson, a conservative college student in Florida, writes to Jerome Hudson (who was in the audience and spoke) on Facebook: "Saw you on Beck!!! Thank you for speaking out for us young, black conservatives out there!!! Proud of you!!!"
Travis Rolling, a conservative in Columbus, Ohio, writes on Facebook: "Beck show......is hilarious right now lol." He adds, "[E]veryone is emotional on the set and can't wait to be heard...it [is] like black conservatives have waited for so long to be heard on a national platform and now we finally got the opportunity."
Negative Viewer Reaction
Akindele Akinyemi, a conservative Republican: "My only criticism with Beck's show tonight was how our Black conservative colleagues and Beck focused more on Obama's policies and less on solutions for our own communities. I did not hear anything about education, brownfield redevelopment, urban agriculture, family redev[e]lopment, alternative energy or globalization. This same energy need[s] to be spread across the spectrum. But the driving point will be solutions in urban and global policy if Black GOP wants to be taken seriously in the months to come."
Pam Besteder, a conservative, argues on Facebook that the show felt rushed and not well thought out: "I am watching Glenn Back and this is the MOST LAME show I've seen! Too many people to talk about the issues. Too many commercial breaks and not ENOUGH conversations about begin [sic] a BLACK CONSERVATIVE! I'm disappointed in the show today." She adds: "My point is there is not ENOUGH TIME to delve into the conservations [sic]. Snip-its [sic] of this comment or that comment, etc. Too many commercials and not enough substance. Unless he kept taping and will show PART 2".
Schwana Ruth-Bridges, a conservative in New Jersey, writes on Booker Rising's Facebook page: "Between the long commercial breaks, the panel switching without any introduction of the panelists and Lisa Fritsch hogging the mic, I lost the point of the show. Blank stare."

I'd be very interested in seeing a three-part series on Black Conservatism.
As Pam Besteder says above, there is not enough time in one segment to delve into the conversations that were taped.
Was a great show! I still don't know how anyone who calls themselves a Conservative could have pulled the lever for Obama.. I don't care HOW bad they thought McCain was on certain issues. It was evident Obama was a pure Marxist and the Supreme Court nominees was one of my biggest reasons I did NOT to have Obama win. I think they gave McCain a real bad rap.. he was bad on many issues but the one guy who said he could have been influenced by Conservatives once he won was right. At least we would have had a better chance influencing McCain than we do Obama now. And the one thing that I did like about McCain was he did want to reform the way some things were done in DC.. He NEVER took any earmarks.. He would have been a better foreign policy President and he was an honest man and a war hero..
As a registered Democrat, and a woman of color
I found this episode of Glenn Beck more 'comical' than watching the Joe Biden vs Sarah Palin debate.
I have never witnessed a group of uneducated minorities make inaccurate historical facts regarding politics.
Please learn to distinguish the difference between Communism and Socialism. They're two separate political ideologies.
Not all Democrats are liberals. Not all Republicans are right wing conservatives.
Reverend Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not liberals. They're demagogues. There are more White liberals than Black liberals. Proposition 8 in the state of California proved that!
You will NEVER be successful at promoting conservative ideologies through grassroot campaigns. Why? Throughout this spectacle of a show, I did not hear ONE valid Republican stance. As a registered Democrat, I would have done a better job defending the Republican Party.
As for the reference, " The Republican Party is the political party of our ancestors." Another dumb Palin comment. The ideologies of political parties have changed over the years. Times change, so do ideologies. { The Federalist Party, The Whig Party, The Republican Party, and the Democratic Party}. John Adams and John Quincy Adams were one of the first Presidents to address the indecent morality of slavery. Did you know they embraced both political parties, Republican and Democrat?
Becks conservative ideologies lean more towards Ron Paul than John Mc Cain. Unfortunately the 'idiots' on the show were not politically sophisticated enough to understand this.
Next time you attempt to 'ridicule' African-American Democrats for supporting Obama, The Black Republican Party needs to be more successful at defending their own premise.
