Black Conservative Town Hall Meeting On Glenn Beck's Show: Bookerista Response, Part 2

The "Time To Be Heard" special show featuring a black conservative audience aired yesterday on FOX News Channel, and you can watch it here (and here for the last 1/3 or so of the show). Yesterday, Booker Rising posted reaction to the show. More reaction:

Ali Butts: "I Was There - Here's The Backstory"

The libertarian in Washington, D.C. writes on Booker Rising's Facebook page
: "There was so many topics and discussion that we had during the show and heated debates during the commercial break that you all didn't get a chance to see or hear. And that is why we are having another show on this topic because we didn't get a chance to discuss other topics more in lengths. Beck said maybe 2 or 3 part series on this which we will do again soon. This show format is called 'a town hall meeting style show' and that's what you saw."

Mr. Butts discusses what didn't get broadcast on the show: "And actually 'we' the audience wasn't [sic] split as far as who voted for Obama. All the way up to when the mayor [Gordon Jenkins, mayor of Monticello, N.Y.) was speaking we were reacting to the special guest panels (which was in a negative way) when they said they voted [for] Obama. We were shouting out when they said they voted [for] Obama especial[ly] me but it was edited. That mayor caught a lot of heat from us especially from me during the show and breaks when I kept yelling 'no politicians here' but of course it was edited. After the mayor segment, [B]eck said 'American[s] you['re] not even going to need me, I'm just gonna let them go' that's when you saw the regular audience speaking and coming to stage towards the end and that's when the show in my opinion got much better. But there was [sic] too many topic[s] and little time to cover everything thus we will be doing this again and I'm sorry that you didn't like the show that you saw need fit [sic]. But I promise you if you would have heard the heated discussion during the breaks and what was said you might have a different perspective of the show."

He adds: "The show had a little bit of everyone from conservatives from both parties and libertarian people like myself, independents and others on the show and there were many other people who didn't voice their opinion. I didn't say anything because to be honest I didn't have anything to say. But overall the audience was against Obama and [the] liberal agenda.
"

R.J. Jones: "Where Was The Focus On Solutions & Black Economic Progress?"

The center-right resident of Detroit, Mich. responds to a commenter on Booker Rising's Facebook page: "Shwana, I also 'lost the point of the show' and was especially disappointed when talk of solutions was reduced to last words. Moreover, I feel that the whole discussion about whether they should be described as Black or hyphenated as African-Americans was a waste of time. Whether or not we think of ourselves, or are thought of, as an ethnic group per se, my preeminent concern is to ensure that we think of ourselves as capable economic agents who should have equal protection under the law and the freedom requisite to full participation in the free market. We need to quit worrying so much about what folk call us -- and thus curbing free speech! -- and start worrying much more about what it's going to cost us to get off and stay off the road back to serfdom and slavery."

Tyrone: "Too Many Pseudo-Conservatives On The Show & Too Much Emphasis On Racial Issues"

The conservative Republican blogger in Baltimore, Md., opines: "In the first segment, Glenn Beck and Fox Business reporter and commentator Charles Payne toured the neighborhood where Charles grew up. The segment was enlightening about what Charles had to endore simply for doing the right thing. This is what bugged m[e] about Charles and some of the black so-called conservatives though. They admitted voting for Barack Obama. Now that I think about it, it was a good thing I wasn't in attendance. People know that [I] sniff out a hypocrites [sic] a mile away. Black so-called conservatives who pulled the lever for Barack Obama and are now criticizing him lack a lot of credibility to even call themselves conservatives."

He continues: "The only thing that separated Obama from other hard left liberals was the color of his skin. As the election drew near, more and more details on the upbringing and radical associations of Obama came to light. These black conservatives as well as I knew this. They can't say that they went into the voting booth not knowing who Barack Obama truly was and what his intentions as president was going to be if he won. So when these same black conservatives criticize Obama, I have to give a sarcastic stare. I knew how Obama was going to govern, because I knew about his background and ideological views. I wasn't going to be two-faced by voting for Barack Obama and then critici[z]e him on how he's governing. I didn't check my conservatism outside of the voting booth on November 4th."

More from Tyrone
: "Glenn's show 'Time to Be Heard was predominately [sic] about 'race' as it pertains to black conservatives. Conservatism among ethnic conservatives in America will not grow unless it is displayed on 'multiple topics' not just every time an issue of race surfaces. I would like to hear conservatives of different races on the issues of limited government, taxation, foreign policy, domestic issues, the economy and border security."

i work at fox news and i'm a black american. my point in disclosing that info is to just be upfront about my affiliation.

i think there is a place for every black american with varying views on politics. i don't think black moderates or conservatives are being heard enough. that being said, i feel bad for some of you that appear on the network's shows because i know that you all are being used. these people don't care about your views, your life or your community. they just want to somehow prove the programming isn't racist by inviting blacks on. and that goes for you on up to juan williams. trust me, i'm in those meetings - i'm helping them shape their agenda. it's troubling and i'm not proud of it regardless of my political leanings, but i have to pay my bills.

i just want you all to know because you all are blindly aligning yourself with people who have no problem falsifying stories in the name of destroying the administration and that is not journalism.

Please know that there are millions of conservatives out there who want to help, want to find solutions to the problems, want to permanently put all traces of racism behind us. The show wasn't perfect, but it was a start. Hopefully, combined with the efforts of organizations like ragingelephants.org we can come together to make a real difference. The progressive agenda is not good for anyone, regardless of the level of pigmentation in their skin. I sincerely hope that through education, of all races, we can one day come together as the only real race - the human race. If there's ever anything that I personally can do to help with the effort, I hope you will not hesitate to call on me. It is a long held dream of mine to help with the true emancipation of all Americans.

I don't believe the anonymous guy. He's probably right that this show was setup "to prove the programming isn't racist", but so what? When someone calls me a racist, I immediately tell them my two closest friends are Chinese and Hispanic. The best way to declaw a falacious argument is through showing revealing the facts.

As for the actual show, I loved it. We live in a nation of immigrants. We need to hear from everybody of all colors, religions, and cultures.

As a registered Democrat, and a woman of color

I found this episode of Glenn Beck more 'comical' than watching the Joe Biden vs Sarah Palin debate.
I have never witnessed a group of uneducated minorities make inaccurate historical facts regarding politics.
Please learn to distinguish the difference between Communism and Socialism. They're two separate political ideologies.
Not all Democrats are liberals. Not all Republicans are right wing conservatives.
Reverend Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson are not liberals. They're demagogues. There are more White liberals than Black liberals. Proposition 8 in the state of California proved that!
You will NEVER be successful at promoting conservative ideologies through grassroot campaigns. Why? Throughout this spectacle of a show, I did not hear ONE valid Republican stance. As a registered Democrat, I would have done a better job defending the Republican Party.
As for the reference, " The Republican Party is the political party of our ancestors." Another dumb Palin comment. The ideologies of political parties have changed over the years. Times change, so do ideologies. { The Federalist Party, The Whig Party, The Republican Party, and the Democratic Party}. John Adams and John Quincy Adams were one of the first Presidents to address the indecent morality of slavery. Did you know they embraced both political parties, Republican and Democrat?
Becks conservative ideologies lean more towards Ron Paul than John Mc Cain. Unfortunately the 'idiots' on the show were not politically sophisticated enough to understand this.
Next time you attempt to 'ridicule' African-American Democrats for supporting Obama, The Black Republican Party needs to be more successful at defending their own premise.

From Anonymous 12:33 PM {Continued}
My Race: African-American
My Profile: Registered Democrat
Social Issues: LIBERAL (I support same-sex marriages, Roe V Wade (pro-choice), and I am Anti-War}
Economics: CONSERVATIVE DEMOCRAT { I support significant tax breaks in the upper economic brackets. It prevents outsourcing, and creates more jobs. However, I do support more government regulation over private sectors. Hence, I do not support deregualtion tactics! Why? Corporate greed falls at the expense of taxpayers! There should be financial revisions/stipulations made to welfare and social security. But should not be done away with completely!

I felt that the Black Conservative Party could have addressed those issues in a more constructve and tasteful manner. Taking 'shots' at Obama will not propel your cause/agenda. Beck (satire) poked fun at the Black Democratic Party by using some'ignorant' black woman (yelling Free Obama Money) as a scapegoat was condescending, and not very appreciated.

Why am I Pro-Choice/Sex Education?
(1) As a feminist, I support a woman's constitutional right to make reproductive choices about her body.
(2) As an African-American, I believe that problems such as Gangs, Violence, Drugs is attributed to Baby Booms. Lack of parental guidance is due to babies having babies. More than 70 percent of households are ran by Single Black Women (unwed mothers). This leads to a lack of education, poverty, and violence. Is sex-education needed? YES! Is Abortion sometimes necessary? YES!

I am 32 years of age. I have an undergraduate degree in Biology. I have NO CHILDREN. I am NOT on welfare. I am a woman of color! I supported Barack Obama! Not because of his race, but his political views. But you know what, I should not have to defend my position. I am sure Glenn Beck will never make the trip to interview the KKK's in West Virginia, asking them why they voted for Mc Cain.

I do repect the opinions of some Republicans ( I encouraged many Republicans to support Ron Paul during the Republican primaries. But next time, avoid being expolited, and lets talk real politics affecting the Black community. BET would have been way more successful than FOX!

I am the Co-Chair for the Miami 912 Project and part of a coalition of Tea Party & 912 group leaders in Florida.  After the show it got me thinking, why don't we reach out to the conservative black groups in our area and do a march on Monday to commemorate Martin Luther King who was also a conservative.  We need to start turning around this idea that the Blacks automatically have to back liberal democrats.  This could be a first step. If anyone knows or is connected to a Black Conservative group here in Florida please let me know.  Also let me know your thoughts about this idea.

Thank you,

Nancy Meinhardt
