One of Italy's largest Muslim organizations has condemned Daniela Santanche, an Italian feminist and conservative former parliamentarian, for calling Mohammed a pedophile and a polygamist on television (hat tip: Ripclawe). A minor skirmish broke out in the Canale 5 studio (Canale 5 is owned by center-right Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi) after her remarks about Mohammed, who had multiple wives and whose third wife Aisha was nine years old when their marriage was consummated. Ms. Santanche made the remarks during a heated debate with Ali Abu Schwaima, president of Milan's Islamic center, on having the crucifix in Italian classrooms after last week’s ban by the European Court of Human Rights.:
"If there is a basis to make a formal complaint, we will do so because we need to say enough is enough with this kind of vulgarity targeting Islam's prophet," said Elzir Izidin, a spokesman for the Muslim group UCOII. Other Muslim groups also condemn the remarks.
How is something that is factual information vulgar per se? This reminds me of when Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the Somali-born libertarian feminist and former Dutch parliamentarian now living in the United States, called Mohammed a pedophile and a "perverse tyrant" five years ago. Dutch Muslims even took her to court for her remarks, but lost.
