Fort Hood Memorial Service

Black moderates and conservatives weigh in on today's memorial service for the 13 soldiers who were killed when Nidal Malik Hasan, a U.S. army major who was actively reaching out to Al Qaeda, went on a shooting rampage last week at Fort Hood military base:

Sophia Nelson, a moderate pundit in Virginia, writes on Facebook
: "Very appropriate remarks from President Obama, and very powerful imagery of the President and 1st Lady Michelle Obama placing a Commander in Chief coin at the boots/photo of each of the fallen....very solemn, very sobering tribute."

She adds: "Boy, [G]eneral Casey just nailed it with the verse from Isaiah 6. 'And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, 'Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?' Then I said, 'Here am I! Send me.'' That is what our fine men and women in the [m]ilitary say everyday -- those who serve -- those who lay down their lives for others."

Tommy Davis, a conservative Republican in Rochester, N.Y., writes on Facebook: "General Casey gave an excellent speech at the Fort Hood memorial service. He invoked the Most High! He reminds me of General Payton."

Isaac Hayes, a conservative Republican in Chicago metro, Ill., writes: "Today I join with the rest of America to remember the service of 13 brave men and women whose lives were cut short by an act of terrorism. We must remain vigilant in defeating terrorism wherever it surfaces – be it foreign or domestic. Mr. Hasan's actions are a shocking reminder that there are enemies among us who want to destroy the liberties and worship of Jesus Christ we enjoy as free people."
