This happened while meeting Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko, as U.S. President Barack Obama arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo this morning. Like the last bow, before the Saudi king some months ago, this move doesn't go down well at all with fervently anti-royalist bookerista set in America:
Sandra Rose: "Obama Bows Down Again"
The conservative blogger in Atlanta metro, Ga. writes: "Unbelievable! Why does the president of the United States continue to ignore established military protocol and bow down to other world leaders? Doesn’t Barack Obama care that his genuflecting to other leaders makes the U.S. look weak to the world? Or is he such a full-blown narcissist that he doesn’t care? I agree with the critics who say Obama couldn’t salute the flag on Veteran’s Day but he can bow down to royalty. He is proving himself to be the most anti-American president in history."
She continues: "The last time he committed a similar faux paux, the White House claimed he did not bow. What’s his excuse going to be this time? That he was looking for his contact lens?"
More: "Update: The video of the bow is below. Note that the emperor did not return the bow just like the Saudi King didn’t bow to Obama seven months ago. Somebody needs to tell him again: American presidents do not bow to royalty."
Ms. Rose continues to discuss the issue on her Twitter page: "If it was a matter of respect, why didn't the emperor bow down to him? That's because the emperor knows better." She adds: "American Presidents do not bow down to royalty. Obama is breaking military protocol by bowing. Heads of state do not genuflect to each other." She also takes issue with an Obama supporter, who brings up former President George W. Bush and the Saudi king: "Bush lowered his head to receive a medal. Then he shook the king's hand. BIG difference....I guess you didn't see the medallion being placed around his neck? Maybe you were blinding by the Kool Aid. That is not a bow." More: "Bowing is a sign of respect in the Japanese culture. So why didn't the emperor return Obama's bow? Think about that."
Mr. Grey Ghost: "Barack Obama Bows Down Again....This Time To Japanese Emperor"
The conservative Democratic blogger in New York City writes: "Seriously, what with the economy getting worse and worse, Barry's lies on healthcare reform, his socialist agenda, liberal policies, disregard for American security, narcissism, inexperience, broken campaign promises, continually breaking protocol and bowing down to world leaders....the list goes on and on -- can someone please bring out the Impeach Obama petition already? Even if it means making Joe Biden president, the disgrace that is Barack Obama needs to go."
James Harris: "What The Hell! What The Bloody Hell!?"
The conservative Republican blogger in Milwaukee, Wisc. argues that President Obama is a national disgrace to the office of the presidency: "This is a disgrace!!!! Somebody please explain this! Anybody, help me understand! WTF is Obama doing to the power and prestige of the presidency? Somebody! Anybody! Make him stop!!! This is madness!"
Facebook Reactions
Melissa Hawkins, a conservative Republican in Maryland, writes: "He's probably asking him what kind of shoes he's wearing. We all know Obama is an idiot."
Virgil Walker, a conservative in Omaha, Neb. writes: "Nice work, Mr. President. I guess this is the posture America should take to the rest of the world. ABSOLUTELY UNBELIEVABLE."

Hoping that eventually I will find a con blogger who's all excited by this citing someone other than another con blogger who agrees with 'em as they make these claims about the rules of protocol as regards American presidents... I'm sure that it must be written down somewhere, given that so many of y'all are claiming with such certainty about it. (I'm with you folks emotionally... I want to believe that US presidents should never bow before anyone--Hell, I want to believe that US citizens should never bow before anyone--but my wanting it--& all you folks claiming it, and using each other's claims as citations proving the truthfulness of the claims, for that matter--just don't make it so...
I'll keep lookin' though... Someone somewhere's sure to have the goods, from a reputable and unbiased source.
He is just building relationship.
