Kenneth Durden, a libertarian-conservative blogger, writes: "Dr. Elbert Huang of the University of Chicago predicts that the number of cases of diabetes in the US will double by 2034. This will put an immense strain on health care costs. As long as we see our health as someone else's responsibility, mostly our dear beloved Uncle Sam, these trends will continue. What will your government do to make you behave? Tax your soda and [T]winkies? You bet. Make you pay a fine for being obese? Probably. As pathetic wards of the state, we will be under the control of our governmental masters. That seems like the plan anyway and it seems that all too many of us are prepared to shirk personal responsibility and trade liberty for security."
