Neoafricain on The Burka & Minarets

The French black conservative, on the growing Muslim threat - and debates concerning the burka and minarets - not only in Europe, but in Africa (op-ed in French): "Behind these simple words, the unease that European people who see their cultures, their history, in brief, the Judeo-Christian identity, threatened by Islam worn by millions of Muslims who, though in general, don't present an integration problem or incompatibility with the host country, have within them a radical minority that must be denounced. The Swiss recently voted overwhelmingly to prohibit any new construction of minarets. Political correctness was then expressed throughout the media: Horror, the Swiss are racist, it's illegal; apologize to Muslims and so on. There were even Belgian politicians who proposed to remove all religious symbols in order not to offend Muslims (!). However, polls have shown that the same proposal that the Swiss have approved would've obtained a similar result in other major countries of the Continent. The fact is that on this subject, there is too much unsaid. For fear of appearing Islamophobic, people pretend to suppress their identity. But one day, it explodes."

He continues: "When you arrive in a country, one must learn to accept its history, its customs. As a man of faith, I am reticent about having a prohibition bill in this area. But there is no longer only faith, there is a political program that must be fought. And again, the battle being fought here in the West will have consequences in Africa and in other countries. The construction of mosques, often financed by the Libyan "Guide" (who doesn't hide his ambition to bring the flame of Islam wherever he can) already distorts the Christian culture of several African countries. Not that these people are willing to leave their historic religion, but people can stand up to a Muslim ready to dump those petrodollars in exchange for the construction of places of worship."

Neoafricain zeroes in on the burka debate in France: "The burka is a symbol of radical Islam that we can tolerate in the streets. Almost all of the political class is against the dress. The only debate left is whether to pass a law prohibiting it altogether in public. I think the burka is a symbol that must be destroyed. A law is thus required even if terrorists will use this pretext to attack France and some stupid Obama administration officials give ammunition to those fools. Some people marvel that we can say that we defend individual civil liberties and support a ban. But in our hyper-media world and time where Islamism threatens the very essence of our societies, it is no small victory against intolerance and proselytizing Muslims."
