Dynamic Duo: Condi Rice Joins Forces With Aretha Franklin For Charity
Two days ago, Booker Rising mentioned that former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice will be performing Mozart on the piano with the Philadelphia Orchestra, and also backing up Aretha Franklin. Of course, folks are wondering how this unusual union emerged. The Queen Of Soul says that she’ll perform three benefit concerts this summer with the moderate-conservative Republican. Ms. Franklin has been developing an opera album, and Ms. Rice plans to accompany her on some arias. "Ms. Rice is a consummate classical pianist, and (since) I sing the arias, I thought that we could do something, a bipartisan effort for our favorite charities," Ms. Franklin told Billboard magazine. One of those shows will happen in Philadelphia; the other two concerts will be announced. Hopefully one of the shows will be in Chicago!
Condoleezza Rice Finds Namesake In Lebanon Snake
Snakes and the number 13 are not usually considered good luck charms, but Condi and her 12 serpent siblings have brought happiness to a couple in Lebanon. Lebanese Pierre Rizk and his Sri Lankan wife Sapna have no children but live happily with their 13 snakes in a two-room apartment east of Beirut. The Rizks form a multicultural family -- their pets hail from India, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Arizona -- and they have named one of their snakes 'Condoleezza' in a tribute to former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. "I really admire her for her leadership," Mr. Rizk told AFP in his small home, a yellow python slithering around his neck and chest. "She has so much intelligence, responsibility, and energy -- just like the energy of snakes," he added.
