Gary Bauer & Alveda King: "Why Our Government Must Stop Funding Planned Parenthood"
The conservative president of American Values and the conservative niece of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. pen a joint op-ed: "President Obama has made the concept of shared economic sacrifice a constant theme of his presidency. 'Shared sacrifice' should be the catch phrase, Mr. Obama told the National Governors Association in late February. 'If all the pain is shared by one group....that’s not good for anyone.' We agree. But there’s one group that isn’t making the economic sacrifices most other Americans are making. Planned Parenthood, America’s largest abortion business, receives $350 million annually from taxpayers in the form of government grants and contracts, even though it makes tens of millions of dollars in yearly profits. A current proposal to defund Planned Parenthood might seem like just another skirmish in the culture war. But it ought to be seen as something more fundamental: the most basic measure of whether our government is serious about resolving its debt problem."
They continue: ""By law, Planned Parenthood cannot allocate any federal funding for abortions. But its $350 million yearly taxpayer subsidy frees up other funds for abortions. With a $1.1 billion budget, and more than 700,000 donors, Planned Parenthood’s fiscal 2009 net profit was $21.7 million, according to its Internal Revenue Service Form 990 tax filing. But lavish public subsidies aren’t the only reason to defund the abortion giant. In recent years, Planned Parenthood centers across the country have been exposed for committing a variety of offenses — including refusing to comply with statutory rape reporting laws and parental consent laws, performing illegal late-term abortions and overcharging clients on birth control."
Day Gardner: "Read Our Lips, Harry Reid!"
The conservative president of the National Black Pro-Life Union issued the following statement to the Senate Majority Leader, which was emailed to Booker Rising: "Okay, the gloves must come off. We are all sick and tired of liberal members of Congress who continue to ignore the American people by insisting that we fund a baby killing organization with our hard earned tax dollars."
She continues: "Planned Parenthood is an organization that was founded to limit the growth of the population by sterilizing women and killing children, especially black children as in the Negro Project, initiated by Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger in 1939. Margaret Sanger's diabolical plan continues today as Planned Parenthood aggressively sells abortion largely to poor and minority neighborhoods -- hoodwinking them into believing that abortion is the only answer to unplanned or unwanted pregnancies. Sanger played on and counted on our ignorance in 1939 -- but we are not ignorant any more. With 3D and 4D ultrasounds and modern technology, we can see that unborn babies are not unidentifiable blobs of tissue as Planned Parenthood once told us. We see the humanity of the unborn child as fellow Americans deserving of life and the rights we all enjoy -- human and civil rights."
More: "We have discovered the truth -- the horrors of abortion -- in the bloody trash cans behind abortion facilities, in online abortion videos and in the photographs of dismembered babies. We have discovered the devastation of abortion in our black communities through statistics provided by the Center for Disease Control and Planned Parenthood's very own research arm, the Guttmacher Institute. We have seen the killing fields -- and we are determined to end the killing. We stand steadfastly with Rep. Mike Pence and other pro-life heroes, Republicans and Democrats, insisting that Planned Parenthood be defunded in the next Continuing Resolution bill. Listen up Mr. Reid, we do NOT want our tax dollars funding the abortion industry. We will not back down or cave in and there is no middle ground."
Kenneth Durden: "Sen. Scott Brown Blocks Defunding Of Planned Parenthood"
The libertarian-conservative blogger isn't happy with the moderate-conservative Republican politician: "Senator Scott Brown (R-MA) is being praised by NARAL for blocking Republican efforts to de-fund Planned Parenthood. Brown needs to go. If this man does not understand that Planned Parenthood should not receive taxpayer funds he doesn't have a clue about the proper role of government, whatever his views might be on abortion. Even if Brown is misguided enough to think government should support organizations that should raise funds on their own and stay out of the treasury, he should be able to understand that the federal government is bankrupt and needs to stick to the fundamentals."
