In Cain Allegations, Comparisons Are Drawn To Clarence Thomas

From The New York Times: "Well, that did not take long. Minutes after news broke Sunday night that Herman Cain had been accused of sexual harassment in the 1990s, comparisons were drawn to Clarence Thomas."

The article continues: "Parallels were drawn almost immediately by bloggers and on Twitter, including from the Cain campaign itself, which sent a Twitter message on Sunday night shortly after Politico reported the accusations by two women it did not name. 'Sadly, we’ve seen this movie played out before,' the Cain campaign said."

Ann Coulter weighs in: "The reference was then made explicit when Ann Coulter echoed Mr. Thomas’s famous counter-charge that he was the victim of a 'high-tech lynching' because of his conservatism. 'This is another high-tech lynching,' Ms. Coulter asserted, shifting the focus from the substance of the accusations to an attack on the news media and 'liberals.'"

More about the comparisons: "In an online post, Commentary pointed out that the strategy had worked for Mr. Thomas and could likewise end up rallying support to Mr. Cain: 'Among conservatives, Thomas remains a hero not just because of his jurisprudence but because they seem him as an innocent victim of a media establishment out to humiliate and punish any African-American who stepped outside of the liberal consensus.'"
