4/30 AUDIO OF THE DAY: Harry Alford: "Obama Is A Fanatical Marxist. I'm Sorry That I Voted For Him Because He's Black"

The Left Vs. Rep. Allen West: Bookerista Perspectives

Constructive Feedback: "These Disruptive White Folks Don't Have To Worry About Being Called Racists For Disrupting A Black Elected Official As He Speaks"

The conservative blogger in Atlanta metro discusses the hecklers at Rep. Allen West's (R-Fla.) recent town hall meetings, some of whom were arrested for disrupting the event (video here): "'RACIST' - as it is used today is an INDICTMENT, used by those who believe that the[y] OWN the right to label it as such. This time such public outbreaks by White people was not motivated by hatred, anger or RACISM against the 'Black speaker'. It was their impassioned resolve to get the TRUTH.  This former host of 'Air America' is not a 'Tea Party' member and thus we can't conclude that this is an 'Astro Turfing' issue."

Ripclawe: "Bossip Calls Rep. Allen West A 'Coon'"

The conservative Republican blogger in Florida writes about the black liberal-oriented entertainment website: "Here is the flip side to liberal sites like Bossip who cash in on trash video and still have the nerve to get mad at blacks who don't go along the liberal POV [point of view] to call a congressman a coon. Don't expect any outrage from the black media."

Trumping Truth: Real Questions For The President

Robert A. George, a moderate-conservative Republican blogger who voted for President Obama, writes: "Mediate's Tommy Christopher has, in my view, the best political take on [this week]'s big 'long-form' birth certificate story: Why address a completely stupid conspiracy theory that was doing more damage -- in my view -- to Republicans than to the president? Maybe the Obama team had private polling showing that the story was bleeding from the GOP base into the independent bloc, and so they had to respond to the story. But why essentially engage with a loudmouth buffoon like Donald Trump whose [sic] been promoting (in basic subtext) the idea that Obama not only isn't a real American, but that he's done nothing to deserve the office he holds?"

Mr. George continues his commentary: "Why allow Trump a victory lap (yeah, I get the idea that this could help Obama by elevating Trump to the detriment of others in the GOP, but it still strikes me as too clever by half)? And, releasing the long-form obviously puts an end to the story, right? As if. Either some still doubt the veracity of the document -- or criticize Obama for not releasing it beforehand. If it's a no-win, why engage at all -- when the legal, recognized short-form had been released three years ago? Why release the documents personally (as opposed to having a White House flunky do the job)? Why step all over the big story of the day -- the shaking up of the national security team? And, if you're going to say that the birth certificate controversy is taking you away from 'bigger issues,' why immediately jet off to be interviewed by Oprah in Chicago and attend three fundraisers in New York?"

1 In 4 U.S. Children Raised By A Single Parent

From the Associated Press: "One in four children in the United States is being raised by a single parent -- a percentage that has been on the rise and is higher than other developed countries, according to a report released Wednesday. Of the 27 industrialized countries studied by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the U.S. had 25.8 percent of children being raised by a single parent, compared with an average of 14.9 percent across the other countries. Ireland was second (24.3 percent), followed by New Zealand (23.7 percent). Greece, Spain, Italy and Luxemborg had among the lowest percentages of children in single-parent homes."

The article continues about single parenthood in the United States: "Single parents in the U.S. were more likely to be employed -- 35.8 percent compared to a 21.3 percent average -- but they also had higher rates of poverty, the report found. 'The in-work poverty is higher in the U.S. than other OECD countries, because at the bottom end of the labor market, earnings are very low,' said Willem Adema, a senior economist in the group's social policy division. 'For parents, the risk is higher because they have to make expenditures on childcare costs.'

More: "The single parent phenomenon has been occurring over recent decades. The study noted the U.S. and England have higher teenage birthrates than other countries, partially contributing to the higher single-parent numbers, though the proportion of children born outside marriage was not significantly higher than the other countries."

Herman Cain Speaks At NRA Conference

From Politico, about the conservative Republican businessman and possible presidential candidate: "Radio host Herman Cain said Friday that the right to bear arms 'and protect yourself if you have to' is fundamental to freedom. 'That’s what America is all about,' the tea party favorite told a few thousand gun owners at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting here [in Pittsburgh]."

More about his speech: "The long-shot Republican presidential candidate spoke little about guns in his 14-minute speech. Indeed, he began his speech with a riff on protecting the unborn, though he said later that he 'can’t wait' to walk the floor of the exhibition hall and talk with gun owners Saturday. 'You know your rights, not just your Second Amendment rights; you know all your rights,' he said."

Obama's Easter Sunday Preacher: A Shameless Display

Asserts Kenneth Durden, a libertarian-conservative blogger: "Wallace Smith, the pastor of the church where President Obama decided to take his family on Resurrection Sunday, foolishly compared the circumstances of a black president being criticized to what black people faced during Jim Crow. What kind of madness is that? He insults the suffering that black people faced in the past. We live in a time when black people have more access and opportunity than they've ever had in the history of this country. We live in a time when a black man was elected by a majority of the people. Meanwhile, this pastor is still singing the same, tired, old tune."

He continues his commentary: "Sure, there is still racism, but young black people haven't completely lost their minds because of racism. It's because they have no knowledge of, or respect for, their history, their culture. It's because they haven't been taught by their parents. It's because the so-called leaders in the community are too busy making excuses."

More: "Can Barack Obama find a normal minister? Why is he attracted to this kind of person? You should know the answer to that. Barack Obama has accepted the perpetual black victim ideology, despite the success he and his wife have experienced. He's accepted, and is a proponent of, neo-socialist propaganda. Sorry, just have to call it the way it is."

DEBATE: Donald Trump, Hire Or Not?

For various reasons, most bookeristas ain't feeling The Donald's possible presidential bid:

Hire! Samuel Gonzalez: "Why Trump Resonates With Republicans & What GOPers Should Take From It"

The conservative Republican blogger in New York City writes: "Bottom line, cut to the chase, the reason why Republicans are gravitating to Trump is because he’s saying EVER[Y]THING REPUBLICANS WANNA HEAR that the present GOP Washington-class leaders are TOO CFHICKEN [sic] S___T to SAY. It’s as simple as that and the sooner these feckless bastards in the GOP realize that the better ti [sic] will be for them. These GOP morons have to get it into their thick skulls that America wants bold leadership, not a bunch of 'Me-too' 'tits on a bull' Republicans that are too damn timid to take it to Bara[ck] Obama and the Democrats."

More: "Now, I don’t know if Trump is running, he might not. But, if he does [then] these other men in the race for the nomination better step up their game! And I’ll tell you this. I’m not worried about Michele Bachmann or Sarah Palin because they already have more balls than Mitt Romney or Pawlenty. Trump is the only male equivalent to Bachmann and Palin. That’s the damn problem with the GOP — too many weak ass, panty wearing, wanna be loved by the media guys like John Boehenr [sic] and Eric Cantor. These metrosexual Republican RINOS needs to get the f___k out the Party and let real men like Allen West and Mark Rubio take over!"

Don't Hire! Crystal Wright: "Obama Slam Dunks Birthers & Trump"

Asserts the conservative Republican blogger in D.C.: "Donald Trump’s 'me, myself and I' routine may work well for his business endeavors and his Apprentice franchise but  it’s already becoming a hackneyed sideshow with unsavory racial undertones to the 2012 presidential election. As a Republican, I would like the party to support a candidate in 2012 that actually has a chance of winning and all this birther talk is an ugly distraction. Do us a favor Mr. Trump, either shut up or change your tune because Obama slammed dunked you and your birther kin."

4/29 VIDEO OF THE DAY: Condi Rice On "30 Rock"

Dr. Rice is getting kudos for last night's cameo, but the moderate-conservative Republican comes across as flat to me. Don't quit your day job, Condi....

The Huffington Post provides background to this scene: "Although [television exec] Jack Donaghy has been making mention of his ex-girlfriend since season one, it wasn't until Thursday night that former Secretary Of State Condoleezza Rice finally made an appearance on '30 Rock.' DEBATE: Is Donald Trump Playing The Race Card, In Going After President Barack Obama?

There are now reports that The Donald was a Vietnam draft dodger (hat tip: Politik Ditto). Mr. Trump has been questioning President Obama's birth, and his sealed college records. He is now saying that Obama should spend less time playing basketball and more time lowering gas prices. Bookeristas are split on whether The Donald is playing the race card or not:

YES: Juan Williams: "The Truth About Trump, Obama & The Race Card"

The moderate-liberal commentator opines: "Trump is now questioning whether the president was smart enough to write a best-selling book. He is asking if Obama is too busy playing basketball to handle the economy. Trump is doubting whether Obama had the grades to get Harvard Law School and suggesting he is just an affirmative action token. It is hard not to see a pattern in these questions. The president is not smart enough to write his own book, he is not smart enough to get into Harvard, and he spends his time playing basketball. The pattern sure looks racial, smells racial, and invites Whoopi [Goldberg, on 'The View'] to call a spade a spade."

He continues his commentary: "The truth is that this national disgrace was never really about birth certificates or citizenship. It is about the fact that no matter what his policies – and there is a lot to argue with in his policies and leadership style – some people appear to never have accepted a president who is very smart, patriotic, hard-working and a family guy. They cannot accept that he is different from the majority of the American people in terms of his name, his life experience and yes, his race. In the 'birther' mindset, different equals dangerous. They can’t say this out loud because they will then be called out for naked racism. So they have stoked doubt about the president’s birth certificate, speaking in coded language and tacitly indulging the race-baiting."

NO: Constructive Feedback: "The Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive-Fundamentalist Racism Chasers Are Projecting Black Inferiority Onto Obama As A Coping Mechanism Against Trump"

Asserts the conservative blogger in Atlanta metro: "As I scan various Black Progressive propaganda channels it is tragically stunning how much they are aggrieved by Trump's actions. They are now trying to assign 'Black VICTIM' attributes to the President Of The United States - in line with what a Black man walking down the street in an exclusive White area of town at 9pm might face by the police. In their view Obama was the victim of the political version of the 'aggressive policing' and subsequent 'carding' for ID. This has set various Black Progressive blogs into a frenzy as they try to show some connectivity.

The Grio.com: "Show Me Your Papers Politics" Could Suppress The Black Vote

There it is.  The connection!! If they (the White racist conservative Republicans) have the audacity to see a Black man in their 'White House' and card him......what are the chances that a 'Ninja' like me will escape their racism as they have me spread eagle on a the trunk of a police car..............when all I was doing is trying to VOTE? I'ma vote for Obama TWICE AS HARD this time. We can't allow those Tea Party types to do this RACISM to us. This fight against RACISM  is far more important than worrying about the 15.2% Black unemployment rate under Obama. This is due to RACISM as well - anyway. Why load this burden upon Obama? He is the president but THEY don't respect him that way. Don't be a hater upon him - like they are'."

William Mountbatten-Windsor Weds Kate Middleton: International Bookerista Reaction

In Britain, they will be referred to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Did you know that Kate Middleton is the first royal bride with a college degree (Elizabeth Mountbatten-Windsor, the current Queen, apparently didn't attend college). Bookeristas from Britain, France, Ghana, and USA weigh in on Britain's royal wedding:

The Wedding

Paa-Kwasi A. Boat, a moderate-conservative in Ghana, writes on his Facebook page: "Is this what you call a royal wedding? Tweeeaaa. Then I refuse to have something like this. Anyway they say every wedding is a royal wedding no wonder you're classifying this one as such. As for this one it looks like a 'profligate-independence-day' celebration in Ghana."

Mr. Ref, a conservative in North Carolina, tweets: "Women, PLEASE take note of this: that wedding might have lasted all but 20 mins tops. It don't take an hour to do a wedding."

Ambra Nykol, a conservative in Seattle, tweets: "Very excited for Kate Middleton and Prince William to join in holy matrimony already so that the media can find something else to discuss!"

Rama Yade, French ambassador to UNESCO and moderate, writes on her blog that the wedding moved her (original op-ed in French): " Well, obviously, the disgruntled will find this marriage weighty or be offended by supposedly antiquated traditions. Well, you can say what you want: between the attack of Marrakech and a devastated Alabama, it's good to see these young heirs to the throne, Kate Middleton and William, in strict British tradition offer such a good heart to jubilation. And the tradition is still good, when it unites two young people and an entire people. Today we wanted to be British."

Samuel Gonzalez: "What The Liberal Media Fail To Accept Is That Obama Is A Reality TV Star, Too!"

The conservative Republican blogger in New York City argues that while the media may be dismissive of Donald Trump as a reality TV star, he ain't the only one: "First of all Trump was an extremely successful businessman 20 years before reality TV was ever invented. But, the bigger point is that there’s no bigger realty TV star than Barack Obama."

He adds: "He got his big launch by Oprah Winfrey and Ellen DeGeneres. Gimmie a break here! There’s never been such [a] lesser qualified candidate for president in the history of American politics. Obama never served as a governor, or mayor. He never ran a business — not even a lemon aide [sic] stand. Prior to his election, everything about Ob[a]ma was based on optics and atmospherics. He dressed well and could [work] a teleprompter better than anyone on the planet. But, take that teleprompter away and he thinks the United States is made of more than 57 states. He looks like a president should, calm, cool, collected. And enough stupid Americans, those that get their news from Jon Stewart, voted for him. But, Barack Obama couldn’t fake the funk forever because although the media is powerful, they can’t do the job as president for him."

More: "And now that he’s got a record of failure and disaster as president. The American people can row realize he’s really an empty suit that was always more sizzle than steak, or in other word[s], the Barack Obama as president reality show TV that’s taking America down the tubes!"

Booker T. Washington: Productivity Guru?

Lifehack.org, a daily digest on productivity and life improvements, draws from this blog's namesake's classic book, Up From Slavery, for this article: (1) do what you believe in, and believe in what you're doing; (2) realize that "the number of people who stand ready to consume one's time, to no purpose, is almost countless"; (3) success involves inspiration, perspiration, and delegation; and (4) stay organized and on top of things.

The article states: "In short, Washington anticipated one of Timothy Ferriss’s most important principles by about 100 years.  Washington writes that, at the time, 'the organization is so thorough that the daily work of the school is not dependent upon the presence of any one individual.' In the language of modern-day business books, by surrounding himself with trusted, talented people, and by integrating them into effective workflow processes, Booker T. Washington was able to leverage the talents of those around him and create value for himself, his organization [Tuskegee University], and his organization’s stakeholders."

A productivity quote from Mr. Washington that precedes productivity guru David Allen's Getting Things Done technique by almost a century: “As far as I can, I make it a rule to plan for each day’s work — not merely to go through with the same routine of daily duties, but to get rid of the routine work as early in the day as possible, and then to enter upon some new or advance work. I make it a rule to clear my desk every day, before leaving my office, of all correspondence and memoranda, so that on the morrow I can begin a new day of work. I make it a rule never to let my work drive me, but to so master it, and keep it in such complete control, and to keep so far ahead of it, that I will be the master instead of the servant. There is a physical and mental and spiritual enjoyment that comes from a consciousness of being the absolute master of one’s work, in all its details, that is very satisfactory and inspiring.  My experience teaches me that, if one learns to follow this plan, he gets a freshness of body and vigour of mind out of work that goes a long way toward keeping him strong and healthy. I believe that when one can grow to the point where he loves his work, this gives him a kind of strength that is most valuable.”

The Real Story: Ben Bernanke: "Slower Growth, More Inflation"

Clifton Bazar says while folks are focusing on President Obama's release of his birth certificate, the Obama administration simultaneously released other info. The conservative Republican blogger in New Jersey writes: "Being the cynic that I am, I think Obama finally caved on the birth certificate issue to cover up this major piece of bad news....So basically we can look forward to unemployment staying at these level and finally the Fed admits to what we have long known, inflation is here. Bernanke did not take responsibility for fueling inflation with Quantitative Easing (Q.E. 1 & 2)."

He continues his commentary: "Search across the net and you will have to do some digging to find any real discussion on this matter, even though Bernanke's first press conference was getting a lot of attention days before. You can thanks the birthers and Trump for moving this story to the back pages. Too bad, because this is the real type of issue that will defeat Obama in 2012."

Rep. Allen West Heckled At Town Hall Meetings

One thing's for sure: Rep. West's town hall meetings are always lively. No wonder they're always jam-packed. From WPBF.com (see video here and here): "Police escorted a number of people out of a town hall meeting Wednesday night -- the second night in a row that U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., held what became a heated event. 'I think they're a bunch of jerks,' said Anne Dion after police walked her outside. 'That's what I think about being forced to leave.'"

More: "Trouble was brewing even before the event started. Sign-carrying protesters were asked to leave private property. West warned the crowd about lashing out. 'You see a lot of media cameras, and the media's here because they want to see a show,' he said. The warning did not stop supporters and critics from turning up the volume. 'I don't care who's yelling at me, cursing at me or saying whatever,' said West. 'You are still in America.'"

Apparently, a former Air America host was arrested at Tuesday's town hall meeting, while at least two other leftist hecklers were escorted out of the room. Meanwhile, Rep. West had these comments on Fox News Channel's "Hannity" show: "'I think the most important thing was I was not going to allow them [liberals] to dominate the dialogue or take over our town hall meeting — and as I told them that I’m not the type of guy that’s going to be intimidated,' West said. 'I stand on facts and the truth and that’s what we are going to take to the people down here in [Florida's] Congressional District 22 — you have to be above that and you have to be in control and not allow them to take over the town hall meeting.'"

Liberals contend that Rep. West's office is now screening which questions get put before him at town hall meetings, a charge which his office denies.

Gregory Kane: "'Hate Crime Justice' Is No Justice At All"

The conservative Republican columnist in Baltimore opines about the McDonald's beatdown in his city: "All the facts about what happened and why aren't even close to being in, yet some have already raised the 'hate crimes' banner. What happened to [Chrissy] Polis was clearly wrong, and the suspects have already been charged with assault. But for some, that simply isn't enough. Because Polis is transgendered, he's entitled to extra protection, according to the 'hate crimes' police. Had Polis, who's white, been just an actual white woman taking a beat-down because of the color of her skin, not her sexuality, we wouldn't have heard word one from anybody about filing 'hate crimes' charges against Polis' assailants."

He continues his commentary: "Quick, when was the last time you ever heard any of these 'hate crimes' folks call for 'hate crimes' charges to be lodged against so-called 'people of color' whose victims were white? President Obama's daughters will be old enough to run for president by the time you come up with an answer to that one. The answer, for most of you, is probably never, because 'hate crimes' lobbyists seldom, if ever, urge prosecutors to file 'hate crimes' charges against assailants whose victims are white and heterosexual. For such victims, good, old regular assault, battery and/or murder charges will have to do."

More: "Here's what 'hate crimes' lobbyists really believe, deep in their hearts: When a crime happens to someone in my group, or someone in a group I deeply sympathize with, then that's a 'hate crime.' When the same crime happens to anyone else, that's simply the victim's tough luck. If that doesn't quite smack of 'equal justice under the law,' then that's because it isn't. It smacks of exactly what it is: unequal justice and egregiously preferential treatment. All those who advocate that so-called 'hate crimes' laws be on our books need to stand up and admit that unequal justice and preferential treatment are exactly what they want."

In One Stroke, A New Obama National Security Team

From the Associated Press: "The reshuffled national security team President Barack Obama introduced on Thursday will be charged with fighting not only the overseas war in Afghanistan but also budget battles on the home front over Pentagon spending that has ballooned into a fat target for deficit hawks. His own re-election campaign approaching, Obama turned to a cast of familiar and respected officials for the most sweeping reworking of his national security team since the opening weeks of his presidency. He invoked the political upheaval and violence roiling the Middle East, the nearly 10-year-old Afghan war and the hard cost-cutting decisions ahead as the country tries to reduce its crushing debt."

He continues his commentary: "In the biggest change, CIA Director Leon Panetta will replace Defense Secretary Robert Gates when Gates makes his long-planned exit this summer. In remarks introducing the Cabinet and Afghan war leaders, Obama also bade farewell to Gates after a tenure begun more than four years ago under President George W. Bush. Gen. David Petraeus, the high-profile commander of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, will replace Panetta at the CIA in the fall, after helping to manage the first steps of a drawdown of U.S. troops in Afghanistan over the summer. Marine Corps Lt. Gen. John Allen will succeed Petraeus as the top commander in Afghanistan, and seasoned diplomat Ryan Crocker will take over as ambassador there. The new team in Kabul will manage the planned shift toward a back-seat role for the United States and its NATO partners, as Afghan security forces gradually assume responsibility."

SIDE-EYE POST OF THE DAY: College Basketball Star Kemba Walker Says He Has Read Only One Book In His Life

Will he be able to read his NBA contract?
Um, how is that possible as a college student? Clearly, he isn't doing his own homework at the University of Connecticut. If I had only read one book in my life, I'd be embarrassed to admit it. Joe Hicks calls Walker a "one book wonder". The conservative commentator in Los Angeles looks at the racial gap in education and asks whether it really is the result of racism. No embeddable video, but you can watch Mr. Hicks' commentary here.

Walker and UConn are walking back that comment. From the Hartford Courant (Connecticut): "'That's meaningless,' coach Jim Calhoun said Wednesday at the State Capitol during Husky Day. 'That's media talk. He's going to graduate in three years.....I don't think the books I read in college I read cover-to-cover. Some of them, I got the shortened version so I could get the....notes and get it done. That was taken completely out of context. You're talking about a kid graduating in three years and trying to make a story out of it. I think it's absolutely asinine, but it's not the only asinine being said. Trust me.'"

The Hartford Courant article continues with Walker's "clarification": "Walker told the AP that it upsets him that the comment may have hurt the school's reputation. 'That's just what people want,' Walker said. 'They want to bring us down. Regardless of what they say, I'm still graduating in three years, so that comment means absolutely nothing. I've read a lot of books.' Walker told AP he was talking about loving a book so much that he read it cover-to-cover in one sitting. 'It's a big emphasis on academics at UConn,' Walker said. 'They make sure we are student-athletes first. I'm going to get my degree. I will find time to do my work.'"

Booker Rising response: He may be graduating in three years, but can he read well? What's his major? Note to Walker: when you're skipping chapters, that ain't reading a book.

President Obama Finally Releases Long-Form Birth Certificate: International Bookerista Reaction

Bookeristas in three countries weigh in on the move:

USA: Dr. Carol M. Swain: "Why Obama Released The Birth Certificate"

From the Washington Examiner, about the law and political science professor at Vanderbilt University and conservative: "Carol Swain, a professor of political science at Vanderbilt, said recent polling showing that only 38 percent of the public believed Obama was born in the United States was likely a 'major impetus' for releasing the document. 'Another more cynical motivation would be they want to distract attention from other things that are taking place in the news,' said Swain, who previously called on Obama to release the certificate in the interest of historians doing research."

Britain: Walaa Idris: "Why Did Obama Release His Birth Certificate Now?!"

Asks the Conservative Party activist in London: "The president is in trouble and he knows it. He also knows the GOP have lots working for them this time round and the only way he can win in 2012 is if they beat themselves – by them choosing the wrong candidate. Donald Trump might talk a lot of sense, plus now he is the big winner who was able to accomplish what many before him including the Clintons, the press, social media and most of Conservative America has tried and failed to achieve: 'the release of President Obama’s full birth certificate'. But make no mistake it isn’t Trump’s genius that pushed Obama into submission – its Obama’s calculated brilliance and desire to handpick who will be his opponent next year. He wants the GOP to select Trump for President, and that’s exactly who they shouldn’t choose!"

The Wedding Of William Mountbatten-Windsor & Kate Middleton: International Bookerista Pro & Con

Bookeristas from Britain, USA, and France weigh in on tomorrow's wedding between William Mountbatten-Windsor (no royal titles on Booker Rising, so I'm using his personal surname!) and Kate Middleton, the first "commoner" to marry a British prince in almost 350 years. As a child of Crispus, I of course am not a royalist. I agree with Mark Oppenheimer's commentary over at Slate that "Americans are supposed to hate monarchs, not worship them" and that the recent U.S. media overdrive regarding this wedding is shameful.

Did you know that British taxpayers are shelling out close to US$30 million for this shindig? And I can't believe that there are fools in America who are actually planning on waking up at 3am to watch the wedding SMH. Anyway, bookeristas weigh in on the couple:

ROYALIST, BRITAIN: Winston Scott: "The Royal Family Is An Important Part Of Britain"

The British moderate writes on Booker Rising's Facebook page: "The British Royal Family plays an important part in the British Constitution and the national church. The Sovereign, Queen Elizabeth II is head of State of the United Kingdom and 15 other independent Commonwealth countries including, Canada, Australia, Barbados, Jamaica and the Bahamas. The Queen is the Head of the national church, The Church of England, which is known as the Epistcopal Church in the USA. Prince Charles, the father of Prince William, has a private income from the lands he owns as Duke of Cornwell. Large chunks of Cornwell, properties in Kennington, South London, including the freehold of tne Oval Cricket ground."

More: "Until Parliament took control of the Crown properties including Regent Street W1 and the Nash Terraces in centrol London, were under the control of the sovereign.  In return for seizing control of the Crown Lands, Parliament pays the Sovereign moneys for Royal duties and the attendant servants that go with the performance of these duties."

ANTI-ROYALIST, USA: Booker Rising: "Why Is The U.S. Media Going Gaga Over This Welfare Family?"

Here's what I wrote on Booker Rising's Facebook page a couple of days ago: "If I hear about this Prince William & Kate Middleton wedding one more time, I'm gonna pull out my hair! Didn't we fight the American Revolution, just so we wouldn't have to see media hype about this welfare family? Tell me something about Libya, Liberia, or what hard-working Brits are up to these days!"

Drawing from polls showing that few Americans are paying attention to the nuptials, I continue about one of the world's largest welfare families: " U.S. media can't trek to Britain every once in awhile to do a series on, say, the workings of the British Parliament or similarities & differences between British English and American English or "5 Things You Don't Know About Britain", but can chase after this wedding? Get outta here!"

Nobody Puts Condoleezza Rice In A Corner

The New York Times Magazine interviews the moderate-conservative Republican and former diplomat. Excerpts:

Much has been written about your unique relationship with George W. Bush. You’re a history buff — are you aware of any relationships like it? Not really. I think there have been other secretaries of state who were close friends, like James Baker and George H. W. Bush. But when you’re in those positions, you always have to remember that he’s the president, he’s the elected one. The president can never quite be your friend. The fact that you have been friends before he was president just gives you a level of trust and a level of comfort that I think is very helpful. I could be very direct with him.

What were the most exhilarating moments in office? The day the Iraqis voted for the first time. The day the Afghans voted for the first time. When Liberia was liberated; when Congress passed the emergency fund for AIDS relief; when the Syrian forces left Lebanon.

In 2005 you went to see “Spamalot,” and the audience booed you [for attending the show while Hurricane Katrina was ripping up New Orleans]. Does that happen a lot?  It happens on occasion and, you know what, I don’t care. I don’t care, because I did what I thought I could do in service of the country. I did some things well and some things not so well. The overwhelming majority of people come up to me and say, 'Thank you for your service.' If you’re a public figure, there are always going to be a few people who don’t like what you did. I’m just really glad I don’t have to listen to them."

Obama's Re-Election Campaign: Bookerista Perspectives

PRO-OBAMA: Clarence Page: "Obama's Democratic Re-Election Budget"

The moderate-liberal commentator opines: "As a Democrat proposing budget-cutting measures, Obama is fighting on his rival's turf. Republicans enjoy cutting revenue as much as Democrats traditionally enjoy finding attractive ways to spend it. But Ryan, one of his party's most influential voices on economic matters, provides an excellent example of the sort of vision that Obama is eager to campaign against."

He continues his commentary: "Both plans would find $4 trillion in savings, Ryan in 10 years, Obama in '12 years or less.' That matches the $4 trillion goal set by Obama's nonpartisan Simpson-Bowles commission to cut spending by 2020. But Ryan's plan is so far to the right that it leaves ample space for Obama to seize the political middle ground. It also enables him to throw enough red meat or, if you prefer, low-calorie vegetarian plates to his left-leaning base to signal that he has not forgotten how to fight for principles."

ANTI-OBAMA: Timothy Johnson: "Obama Isn't A Shoo-In For 2012"

Asserts the conservative Republican head of the Frederick Douglass Foundation. From OneNewsNow.com: "'At this point, with ObamaCare, the issue of the budget, how he's chosen to deal with Libya, how he's chosen to deal with so many other issues -- it gives us an opportunity to really highlight the difference between where he wants to take the country and where the Republican Party wants to take the country,' the retired Army officer explains."

More: "But he admits that blacks will likely flock to vote for Obama next year. 'I hate to say it, but there will be a good number of people who look like me that will still be stuck on stupid and still want to support him for the color of his skin -- not for the job he's done as the president of the United States,' Johnson predicts."

Cory Booker, Alma Powell To Receive Honorary Doctorates At Fisk University

From The Republic (Indiana), about the moderate-liberal Democratic mayor and Colin Powell's wife: "Newark Mayor Cory Booker will receive an honorary doctorate degree at [historically black] Fisk University in Nashville May 2. Alma Johnson Powell, chair of America's Promise Alliance, also will get an honorary doctorate degree. Both will deliver convocation addresses. Booker was first elected Newark mayor in 2006 and was re-elected last May. Powell, a Fisk alumna, is the wife of Gen. Colin Powell."

Condi Rice: "Rumsfeld Is Wrong & Grumpy"

I think it's safe to say that Condi & Rummy ain't friends
From Politico, about the moderate-conservative Republican: "After months of silence, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice finally has her review ready of the charges in former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld’s memoir that she was never critical of George W. Bush’s positions and was ill-equipped for a senior administration role: 'He doesn’t know what he’s talking about.'"

The article continues: "Rice had declined interview requests on Rumsfeld’s book, 'Known and Unknown,' since it hit the bookshelves in February, but in a question-and-answer feature with The New York Times Magazine that will be in Sunday’s issue, Rice said Rumsfeld’s take on her time as secretary of state and, before that, as national security adviser, could only have been invented."

More: "Rumsfeld also suggested that Rice did not have the skills to manage a major government office. 'She’d been an academic. And, you know, a lot of academics like to have meetings,' he said in one interview. 'And they like to bridge differences and get people all to be happy.' But Rice countered that her academic experience as provost of Stanford University was not so modest and 'not so easy.' She added: 'I don’t know what Don was trying to say, and it really doesn’t matter. Don can be a grumpy guy. We all know that.'"

Will Ghana's Center-Right Return To Power? Nana Akufo Addo Leads President Mills In Swing Regions

President Mills (left) and Nana Akufo Addo
Longtime Booker Rising readers may recall that Ghana's 2008 presidential election was decided by less than one percent of the vote. From The Statesman (Ghana): "If the 2012 presidential election were held this month, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the [center-right] NPP's Presidential Candidate, would almost certainly be in the lead and could count on the support of the 4 key swing regions in the country, according to a new independent poll. The survey by international firm, Synovate, was conducted in April 2011 across all ten regions of Ghana. Synovate is the market research arm of Aegis Group plc, with offices in over 60 countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Australia and the United Kingdom."

The article continues: "Respondents cited rising unemployment, high prices of fuel and food items, education, corruption and lack of health facilities as the most serious problems affecting Ghana today under the leadership of President Mills. The poll puts Nana Addo's popularity rating ahead of President Mills in all four critical swing regions. Respondents were asked, 'If elections were held today, who would you vote for?' According to the results released by Synovate, Nana Addo leads President Mills by as much as 21 percentage points in the Central Region; 19 percentage points in the Western Region; and 6 percentage points in the Brong-Ahafo Region. His lead is narrowest in Greater Accra Region with four percentage points. During the 2008 elections, the Central, Western, Brong-Ahafo and Greater Accra Regions arguably determined who became President of Ghana. These same regions are likely to determine, once again, who leads Ghana after the 2012 elections."

Herman Cain: "People Are Trying To Push Me Into A Corner On My Muslim Comments"

From The Daily Caller, about the conservative Republican businessman and possible presidential candidate: "Potential 2012 presidential candidate Herman Cain told The Daily Caller that he’s tired of media figures distorting his comments. He’s come under fire of late for saying he wouldn’t be comfortable appointing a Muslim to a cabinet position or recommending one for a federal judgeship. Following an Americans for Tax Reform (ATR) luncheon on Wednesday afternoon, Cain told TheDC 'quite frankly, I’m sick of people trying to take me somewhere that I’m not there.' 'People are trying to push me in a corner or they’re trying to get me to retract my statement but it keeps getting blown more and more and more out of context and I’m going to use that, quite frankly, against the media,' Cain said."

More: "Cain told TheDC that there’s an 'element that’s trying to drag me where I’m not,' Cain said. 'I’m trying to drag the American people down straight street.' The Muslim staffing question became an issue for Cain when left-wing bloggers at ThinkProgress, the web publishing arm of John Podesta’s Center for American Progress, published a video in which one of Podesta’s activists asked Cain if he would feel 'comfortable' putting a Muslim in his cabinet or appointing one to a federal judgeship. Cain said, 'no.' The ThinkProgress video came after media criticized a comment on Muslims’ role in America that he gave to Christianity Today."

French Government To Rama Yade: "You're Out Of Order! Keep Criticizing Us & You'll Lose Your Job. So Hush!"

Things have been kinda rough for Rama Yade lately
You may recall that the French ambassador to UNESCO and moderate recently left the center-right UMP party to join a centrist party that's in coalition with the UMP. Of course, that hasn't stopped the outspoken and popular politico from saying what's on her mind. However, President Nicolas Sarkozy's government has issued an ultimatum. From Le Point (original article in French): "Former Secretary of State for Human Rights and Sports Rama Yade was called to order by the government, which considers her critical statements against its policies inconsistent with her duty related to her status as an ambassador to UNESCO. 'This obligation of confidentiality is imposed on everyone, including those who have a political career' said government spokesman  François Baroin."

The article continues: "He was responding to a question about the fate of Rama Yade, who was appointed by Nicolas Sarkozy to be France's UNESCO representative after the cabinet reshuffle last November. 'I think the message has been sent very clearly to the complainant (...) It seems important to her that this message be heard if she wishes to pursue a career in diplomacy ambassador,' said Baroin." during cabinet proceedings."

Of course, Ms. Yade has responded. From Les Echos: "I do not intend to pursue a career at UNESCO, this is only temporary." According to Europe1, she has also said, "I existed before UNESCO and will exist after UNESCO." Doesn't sound like she's backing down...

DEBATE: Is Donald Trump Right To Go After President Obama's College Records?

Damn, The Donald is just relentless. Lately he's been claiming that President Obama was unqualified to attend an Ivy League institution (for the record, Mr. Trump also graduated from an Ivy-League institution, the University of Pennsylvania). I'd argue that a guy who graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law obviously had the talent to do the work, but I guess that I'm too pragmatic. Also, where's Kevin Jackson's evidence to back up his claim that President Obama only had one job offer after graduating from Harvard Law? And proof that Obama was a bad student? Anyway, bookeristas weigh in on Donald Trump's latest Obama project:

YES: Roosevelt Evans: "Trump Is Asking The Right Questions"

Asserts the libertarian on his Facebook page: "Many consider Donald Trump to be just a 'publicity hound' but he is articulating the questions that many have about President Obama['s] past, questions that wouldn't exist if President Obama wasn't so guarded about his past, in my opinion."

NO: Clarence Page: "Trump Is Pandering To Obamaphobes"

The moderate-liberal commentator opines: "Of course, it is Trump who is sounding like a broken record. Sitting high and dry just like that water-barrel clown [from my childhood], it didn't take the Donald long to figure out that no candidate goes unnoticed who panders to the Obamaphobes. Next thing you know, Trump will be calling for Obama's driving test results. Evidence? He doesn't need any blinking evidence when he's already tied for first place with Fox TV host and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, another undeclared Republican possibility, in a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll of Republican voters."

Black, Conservative, & (Ex-) Muslim In America

According to the Encyclopedia Of Religion In The South (2005), 15 percent to 30 percent of enslaved Africans brought to the U.S. were Muslim. The slavery era dramatically changed U.S. blacks' religious background, such that only one percent of African Americans are now Muslim. However, African Americans comprise 20% of all native-born Muslims in America. Some four percent of foreign-born Muslims in America are from non-Arab parts of Africa.

As American Muslims increase their profile, prominent black conservatives such as Rep. Allen West (R-Fla.) and businessman Herman Cain have become increasingly critical of the religion.

Cain — who may run for president - recently stated that he would not appoint a Muslim to his administration if he is elected president. He asserted that "Islam doesn't belong in the American government". Cain also claimed that Islam has "an objective to convert all infidels or kill them".

Rep. West and Cain have also been critical of Rep. Keith Ellison (D-Minn.), the first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress. Cain contends that Rep. Ellison — who is black — supports the establishment of sharia law  in America. Rep. West - who regularly clashes with Muslim advocates at his monthly town hall meetings - argues that Rep. Ellison represents "the antithesis of the principles upon which this country was established".

AkBar Shabazz
What do Muslims and former Muslims think about these increasingly vocal comments from fellow black conservatives? In regards to Rep. Ellison, AkBar Shabazz hopes that Cain and Rep. West "would restrict their criticism to policy disagreements instead of religious targeting. African-American men at their age should truly know much better than that." He told Booker Rising, "As far as their sweeping criticisms of Muslims, I think it is intellectually lazy to use broad generalizations. Their position requires only bigotry and little to no thought."

Shabazz, an Atlanta-based conservative who has been a practicing Muslim from birth, stated that he is "very disappointed" particularly with Herman Cain. "I used to know him as a thoughtful and deliberate businessman. Unfortunately, he has morphed into a flamethrower," declared Shabazz.

"He should know the U.S. Constitution well enough to know that it disallows any religious tests for government positions", he added. The Supreme Court has confirmed this as illegal. Elected officials cannot selectively choose which article of the constitution to follow based on their individual dislikes for others."

Obama Finally Releases Long-Form Birth Certificate

About dang time. Obama should've released this a long time ago to nip this controversy in the bid. I'm sure Donald Trump is somewhere now declaring victory. Can the 'birthers' hush now? From the Associated Press: "The White House released the long form of President Barack Obama's birth certificate Wednesday in response to questions about whether he was really born in the U.S. The certificate says Obama was born in the state of Hawaii, which makes him constitutionally eligible to hold the office of president. Obama released a standard short form before he was elected in 2008, but requested copies of his original birth certificate from Hawaii officials this week in hopes of quieting the lingering controversy. White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama felt the debate over his birthplace had become a 'sideshow' that was bad for the country and political debate."

The birth certificate specifics: "The certificate is signed by the delivery doctor, Obama's mother and the local registrar. His mother, then 18, signed her name (Stanley) Ann Dunham Obama. The form says Barack Hussein Obama II was born at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital, within the city limits of Honolulu. There's no mention of religion. It says his father Barack Hussein Obama, age 25, was African and born in Kenya and his mother was Caucasian and born in Wichita, Kansas. Obama's mother and the doctor signed the certificate on Aug. 7 and 8. Hawaii's registrar certified the new photocopy of the document provided to the White House on April 25, 2011."

Additional info from the AP: "Responding to critics' relentless claims, President Barack Obama on Wednesday produced a detailed Hawaii birth certificate in an extraordinary attempt to bury the issue of where he was born and confirm his legitimacy to hold office. He declared, 'We do not have time for this kind of silliness.' By going on national TV from the White House, Obama portrayed himself as a voice of reason amid a loud, lingering debate on his birth status. Though his personal attention to the issue elevated it as never before, Obama said to Republican detractors and the media, it is time to move on to bigger issues."

A Bookerista Responds

Duane Brayboy responds to liberals who claim that 'birtherism' is fueled by racism. The conservative blogger writes: "Tavis [Smiley], [w]hy is it 'racist' to demand a full accounting of Obama’s birth certificate, but not 'racist' to hold a [U.S. Senate] hearing over McCain’s [when McCain, who was born on a U.S. naval base in Panama, ran for president in 2000]?"

Allen West: Has The Militarist Right Found Its New Warlord?

West: Old Spice guy for populist Right?
Asks William N. Grigg, a libertarian blogger in Idaho. He side-eyes Rep. Allen West's recent comments that American women should follow the Spartan model: "'I want to start a draft Allen West movement!' exclaimed Glen[n] Beck during his April 21st radio program. The radio personality has been cooing and burbling about West for months. He's convinced that the retired Army Lt. Colonel -- who was cashiered in disgrace for abusing a prisoner in a fashion that merited prosecution under Article 93 of the UCMJ -- is the 'man of honor' our troubled country needs. Of course, Beck isn't the only one infatuated with West: the freshman congressman from Florida is emerging as something of an Old Spice Guy for the punitive populist Right."

He continues his commentary: "With Washington's legions engaged in three open wars and at least five covert conflicts, it's clear that the incumbent warlord is not hindered by a disinclination to 'pull the trigger' [as Beck claims]. In fact, under the reign of the Nobel Peace Laureate, Washington's military entanglements have expanded considerably and deepened dramatically, particularly through the use of death-dispensing drone aircraft. In terms of bellicosity overseas, a President Allen West would most likely take up seamlessly from his predecessor. The substantive difference between the two would become apparent in domestic affairs: West's model of an ideal society is the proto-fascist totalitarian state that ruled ancient Sparta. In a recent address to a meeting of the Evangelical group 'Women Impacting the Nation,' West extolled the supposed virtues of the Spartan system, in which children (at least those who made the initial cut as newborns and weren't selected as genetic culls to be hurled from a cliff) were stolen from their parents and raised as the property of the State."

Ron Paul Preparing Another Presidential Run

"Dr No": Rep. Ron Paul
It'll be the libertarian Republican Congressman's third bid. Kenneth Durden, a libertarian-conservative blogger, writes: "Republican Ron Paul announced that he's launching the customary 'exploratory committee' that usually leads to a run for president. I'm ready for a Ron Paul type president. We need to take a hard turn in the other direction away from big government. We need a president who will hold Congress accountable on spending, one who will avoid military engagements around the world, one who will apply the law and the Constitution when it comes to the proper role for the federal government."

More: "One thing for sure is that we wouldn't have to worry about Ron Paul doing something totally different from what he promised during a campaign. I was hoping his son would run, but I might be open to supporting Mr. Paul. It's not about look or image or how slick one can be. It's about principles and leadership."

4/26 Events

5:30pm CT, USA: Apostle Claver Kamau-Imani Hosts Raging Elephants Boot Camp In Tennessee

Y'all know Raging Elephants as the folks behind the controversial "Dr. King was a Republican" billboards. During this workshop, attendees will learn just how to identify hidden conservatives within the ranks of minority voters in order to "infiltrate traditionally non-conservative voting regions" - and then educate and impel those voters to vote for those candidates and issues most in line with their own conservative worldview (conversion politics). The event will be held at the Bartlett Station Municipal Center, 5868 Stage Road, in Bartlett, Tenn. (suburb of Memphis). Free.

7:00pm ET, USA: Rep. Allen West Hosts Town Hall Meeting In Florida

The conservative Republican Congressman is hosting the first of his two monthly town hall meetings. This event will be held 7:00pm-8:30pm at the Calvary Chapel (2401 West Cypress Creek Road) in Ft. Lauderdale. Rep. West's town hall meetings have been standing-room-only and lively affairs, so get there early. I'm sure that a CAIR representative will be on hand yet again to do battle with Rep. West about Islam.

Girl’s Mom Sues Over 'Defamatory' Pro-Life Billboard

This billboard was controversial in New York City
Y'all surely remember the recent black pro-life billboard controversy in New York City. Well, the mom of the girl in the billboard is filing a lawsuit. From CBS New York: "A New Jersey mother is suing the anti-abortion organization that used her 6-year-old daughter’s image on a massive billboard in SoHo that some people denounced as racist and offensive. Tricia Fraser filed a lawsuit Tuesday against the Texas-based group Life Always, which put up the billboard earlier this year before it was taken down."

The article continues: "The lawsuit claims the use of her daughter’s image was 'defamatory, unauthorized and offensive.' The suit also calls the billboard 'racist.' Though the photograph was obtained legally, the lawsuit claims its license prohibited the use of the image in 'defamatory' ways."

Booker Rising response: I'm pro-choice, and yet I see nothing racist about this billboard. Many liberals really need to quit calling everything that they disagree with "racist". It dilutes the impact of calling out genuine racism. While I disagree with the ad's message, there is nothing defamatory about it. I'm not an attorney, but I don't see how she has a case. Ms. Fraser clearly gave permission to a modeling agency for her daughter's image to be used as a stock photo, which means it can be used for just about anything legal. She should’ve thought that decision through, instead of trying to shift responsibility elsewhere. Life Always wasn't even legally obligated to respect her request to take down the billboard because of her daughter's photo, but they did so. Now she's coming up with this "defamatory" claim, when she said no such thing when the controversy first hit. Speaking of which, why isn't Ms. Fraser suing the modeling agency, the entity with which she had the contract and which released the photo? Call me a cynic, but I think this is really a liberal setup to try to bankrupt a group whose views they disagree with, with petty lawsuits. I assume Ms. Fraser has learned a lesson about the pitfalls of stock photo modeling.

Abortion: Black Genocide Vs. Performance Gap

Jim Collier, a moderate blogger in Oakland, disagrees with pro-life activists who argue that abortion is black genocide: "There is a growing right-to-life strategy, in America, of labeling legal abortions as racism and genocide. Nothing could be further from the truth. The disproportion in black abortions reported is not due to a conspiracy of whites, in general, or Planned Parenthood specifically. Rather, it is the direct result of black women and men, together, shifting the responsibility of whether or not to potentially make a baby until after conception. I suggest that this is a performance gap (of responsibility)."

He continues his commentary: "According to the US Census Bureau and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), black women, as just over 12% of the US population, have 36% of the total abortions. Hispanic women in equal percentages have 25% of the abortions. White women, at 69% of the population have but 36% of all abortions. In all cases, these abortions are the choice of the mother, courtesy of Roe v. Wade and the right granted by the Supreme Court for women to control their own bodies. In keeping with the disparity in baby decision-making between whites and blacks, white contraception usage in the US is 65%, versus 55% for blacks, and 59% for Hispanics, according to the US Census Bureau."

Thomas Sowell Reviews Race And Economics: How Much Can Be Blamed On Discrimination?

Walter E. Williams has another book out. Dr. Sowell, a conservative economist in California, reviews his fellow economist's (and friend's) new book: "My own favorite chapter in 'Race and Economics' is Chapter 3, which I think is the most revealing chapter in the book. That chapter begins, 'Some might find it puzzling that during times of gross racial discrimination, black unemployment was lower and blacks were more active in the labor force than they are today.' Moreover, the duration of unemployment among blacks was shorter than among whites between 1890 and 1900, whereas unemployment has become both higher and longer-lasting among blacks than among whites in more recent times. None of this is explainable by what most people believe or say in the media or in academia. But it is perfectly consistent with the economics of the marketplace and the consequences of political interventions in the marketplace."

More: "'The last year in which the black unemployment rate was lower than the white unemployment rate was 1930. That was also the last year in which there was no federal minimum wage law. The Davis-Bacon Act of 1931 was in part a result of a series of incidents in which non-union black construction labor enabled various contractors from the South to underbid Northern contractors who used white, unionized construction labor. The Davis-Bacon Act required that 'prevailing wages' be paid on government construction projects -- 'prevailing wages' almost always meaning in practice union wages. Since blacks were kept out of construction unions then, and for decades thereafter, many black construction workers lost their jobs. Minimum wages were required more broadly under the National Industrial Recovery Act of 1933 and under the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, with negative consequences for black employment across a much wider range of industries."

He ain't done yet: "In recent times, we have gotten so used to young blacks having sky-high unemployment rates that it will be a shock to many readers of Walter Williams' 'Race and Economics' to discover that the unemployment rate of young blacks was once only a fraction of what it has been in recent decades. And, in earlier times, it was not very different from the unemployment rate of young whites. The factors that cause the most noise in the media are not the ones that have the most impact on minorities. This book will be eye-opening for those who want their eyes opened. But those with the liberal vision of the world are unlikely to read it at all."
