Justice Thomas received his B.A. in English literature from the school in 1971. From the Worcester Telegram & Gazette (Massachusetts) about the U.S. Supreme Court justice and conservative Republican: "Yesterday, Justice Thomas was in Worcester to accept an honorary law degree at a rare convocation during the first week of the college's spring semester."
More: "Justice Thomas praised and thanked Rev. [John E.] Brooks, whose work recruiting and nurturing Justice Thomas and his classmates, the college's first relatively large group of black students, is the subject of a recently released book. The justice owes 'a very particular debt of gratitude to Father Brooks,' he said, referring to the man beside the podium. 'I know that I am the better for you having lived...You saw each of us as a person, not a project.'"
