| Botswanan President Ian Khama |
The ANC should know by now that Botswana President Ian Khama is very outspoken, and will not stop doing so just because they say to do so. From the Zimbabwe Mail: "The South African ruling party African National Congress (ANC) has said that as much as it respects the fact that President Ian Khama prefers to speak out as an individual sovereign on international issues, it is important to maintain a collective position. Khama is known for taking independent positions and speaking out against dictatorial regimes including that of Southern African Development Community (SADC) colleague, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe."
The article continues: "Speaking in a joint press interview with the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP) in Gaborone, ANC secretary general Gwede Mantashe said, 'It's important for continental bodies to work together collectively. For example, when the African Union (AU) takes a decision, it's wise to knit ourselves into multi-lateral continental organisations and respond with one voice.'"
