Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day: Bookerista Reaction

As you probably know, yesterday was Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. This event came after the liberal Democratic mayors of San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston promised to deny business licenses to the fast food chain, because its president & COO opposes gay marriage. Personally, I disagree with Dan Cathy's views on gay marriage. However, I'm far more appalled by governments trampling on our 1st Amendment to deny a business license to a company because of its political and religious views. Other bookeristas weigh in on yesterday's very busy day for Chick-Fil-A:

Herman Cain: "Hip Hip Hooray For Free Speech"

Asserts the conservative Republican businessman. From the Examiner: "Former Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain praised those who showed up at the fast food chain Chick-fil-A yesterday to show support for the restaurant after its CEO Dan Cathy stated in an interview two weeks ago his preference for traditional marriage. 'First of all, Dan Cathy stated that he favored traditional marriage, he didn’t attack gays or that side at all,' said Cain, resident of Atlanta where Chick-fil-A is headquartered. 'And secondly, I am thrilled that the American people voted with their feet and they went to Chick-fil-A to say they will not be bullied by politicians or threats. So this was a huge public statement on behalf of free speech and free choice (…). I am thrilled at how the public reacted.'"

Adrienne Ross: "How I Celebrated Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day"

The conservative Republican blogger in New York state writes: "Join me in being a blessing to this business that refuses to bow to the thuggery of bullies who feel justified in threatening religious freedoms and stifling job creation at a time of economic woe. I stand with those, like Chick-fil-A, who stand for traditional marriage and the First Amendment."

Ms. Ross continues her commentary: "Since New York doesn't have a Chick-fil-A, I'm showing my support another way. I just went to their website and ordered some merchandise -- a T-shirt for me and a hat for a friend."
