Asserts the moderate-liberal Democratic mayor of Newark, N.J. From Capitol Quickies: "Newark Mayor Cory Booker said the Democratic Party platform
sets out significant differences between the two major parties’ economic
policies and that his party’s plan emphasizes the middle class. 'Our platform is crafted by Democrats, but it is not about
partisanship. It is about pragmatism,' said Booker, co-chairman of the
Democrats’ platform committee, who entered to a loud ovation."
Mayor Booker then claimed that rich people paying higher taxes (while 47% of Americans pay zero in taxes) is about "fair share" and "patriotism": "Booker’s speech opened with a lengthy emphasis on the economy, then said the platform calls for both government spending cuts and a revamped tax code that includes higher taxes for the rich. 'When your country is in a costly war with our soldiers sacrificing
abroad and our nation is facing a debt crisis at home, being asked to pay your fair share isn’t class warfare. It’s patriotism,' Booker said."
Booker Rising response: I wonder why Democrats virtually never call upon people to make better life choices instead of expecting others to subsidize said choices, as an act of patriotism?
