Bookeristas on two continents weigh in about the liberal Democratic U.S. president's speech last night at the Democratic National Convention: "
USA: Kenneth Durden: "President Obama Demonstrates His Statism"
Asserts the libertarian-conservative blogger, about the president: "Mr. Obama gave us the same tired rhetoric. He played the same game of
giving lip service to principles like personal responsibility and
charity and eschewed the wealth envy on which a great part of his
campaign is based. Just words."
He continues his commentary: "More than Mr. Obama's words of the evening. I believe my eyes, my ears and I believe the record. Mr. Obama is a statist. He is as far left as an American politician at
his level has been. If you do not believe that then why is he arm-in-arm
ideologically with a nutcase like Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Wasserman
Schultz. Seriously. Think about that. If you are like many Obama voters I
know, you don't even know Nancy Pelosi and Debbie Schultz or their
significance. This is the problem."
Britain: Walaa Idris: "Is Obama Is Moving 'Forward', Then Why Is His Campaign Backwards?"
Asks the Conservative Party activist in London: "First, and by
comparison to his usual style, it was rather flat, even though he was
preaching to the converted. Which brings me to another peculiar thing
with the speech; it offered nothing to independent and floating voters.
Strange, because how does he think he won the 2008 election? Yes he
energized and maintained his base, but it was undecided voters and those
outside his base that won him his fabulous majority last time!"
She continues her commentary: "Thirdly, during the whole speech, he never once said what went wrong
since Hope and Change….! Never talked about the jobs he promised to
create but failed to, or the businesses that went under on his watch. He
did not say a word about the homes that were repossessed and the
families that lost everything, he didn’t even talk about his legacy and
pet project, Universal Health Care. Come to think about it, last night,
President Obama said very little about what mattered to Jo Public and
Middle America and talked loads about ‘just give me a second chance,
because Michelle, Joe and Bill think I am a good man and will be better
than the other guy’!!!!"
