Days later, black moderates and conservatives continue to ponder the liberal Democratic president's speech at the Democratic National Convention: "
PRO-OBAMA: John McWhorter: "Obama's Speech Fell Flat"
Asserts the moderate-liberal commentator: "It’s great that his oratorical gifts helped get him elected. But after four years we just hear him talking, again. Comedians do imitations. Reality has caught up to '24' and 'Deep Impact': the President is black and kind of sounds like it. We’ve moved on."
He continues his commentary: "Now what we need from the man is content over form, and at the convention he underperformed on that. 'Explainer-in-Chief,' the media has dubbed Bill Clinton for his masterful bullet-point refutation of the Republicans’ nonsense charges against Obama. But why in the world isn’t the President himself the explainer-in-chief? Why can’t a former law professor, who could even give a tease in his speech about how being American entails not only rights but responsibilities, give us as good a teaching as Clinton did?"
ANTI-OBAMA: Lurita Doan: "Obama Continues To Overpromise, But Has Delivered Nothing Of Value"
Asserts the conservative Republican commentator and former federal official under the George W. Bush administration: "Mr. Obama believes that he can say anything, do anything and that he will not be held accountable because many Americans are more afraid of the inevitable false charges from a well-oiled machine that will call them 'racists'. He simply cannot accept the fact that his policies have failed. And so, Obama goes on in a curious way, reprising old, false promises to narrow groups of constituents whom he hopes to bribe, one more time, for a vote with money and benefits that can only be paid for by future generations."
She continues: "Most successful businesses know that a good rule of thumb is to underpromise and overdeliver. Barack Obama has spent four years overpromising and never delivering anything of value. Romney, meanwhile, is calling for austerity, clearly identifiable budgetary priorities, strong defense and shared sacrifice that shows a willingness to make the future a secure and thriving place for our children's children. A historic choice indeed."
