Political Astrology: Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr.'s Emotional Trauma

Per a reader's request, I've done an analysis of the liberal Democratic Congressman's chart. The Chicagoan has been on medical leave since June 10 (after leaving everybody in the dark — including the constituents in his Congressional district and his colleagues — for weeks about what happened to him and his whereabouts).

After getting treated for bipolar disorder, Rep. Jackson Jr. was recently released from the Mayo Clinic and may return to Congress as early as tomorrow. However, his famous father Jesse Jackson Sr. fears that he left Mayo Clinic too early and is publicly stating that his son shouldn't return to work so soon.

Because we don't have an exact birth time for Rep. Jackson Jr., 12 noon is used as a stand-in midpoint birth time on his birth date. In the interests of time, I'm only going to zero in on the aspects that relate to the Congressman's health and emotions. Looking at Congressman Jackson's chart, the first thing that jumped out at me is how tense it is. He has 13 oppositional aspects, when the typical chart that has five or six. That ain't good.

We know that Rep. Jackson is a dreamy and creative Pisces Sun. The Moon (which represents emotions) did change positions on the day that he was born, going from Gemini to Cancer. If Rep. Jackson was born before 6:03am, he has a Gemini Moon. If he was born at 6:03am or later, then he has a Cancer Moon. I'd wager that he has a Gemini Moon, given his bipolar diagnosis (Gemini symbolizes twins and duality). Now, on to why the Congressman is bipolar...

Why Is He Bipolar?

Excluding the Moon (since it could be in Gemini, which is an air sign), the Congressman has four planets and his Chiron in water signs. This means that he is an emotional man.

Rep. Jackson's Sun (core being) is in opposition to his Mars (action), Uranus (rebellion), and Pluto (change). That's a lot for someone to handle, as each of them are difficult aspects.

Sun opposition Uranus means that Rep. Jackson Jr. is prone to having erratic mood swings and poor self-control, and is hypersensitive (as we saw yesterday in the natal chart of Rep. Allen West, who also has the this aspect).

Another dissociative aspect in the Congressman's natal chart is his Sun (core being) opposite Pluto (change) aspect. This placement suggests that he has extreme desires that he hasn't resolved in his life, possibly lingering resentment or anger towards someone or something. It also makes him hypersensitive and prone to being dissatisfied with his life accomplishments, no matter what he has achieved in life. Because Pluto likes to tear things down and transform them, this placement means that Rep. Jackson Jr. has a lot of self-destructive behaviors.

Congressman Jackson Jr. only has one major aspect in Mercury (thoughts). This suggests that it's difficult for him to express this thoughts. Moon is opposite Mercury means that Rep. Jackson Jr. is a very restless man. His emotions (Moon) and his thoughts (Mercury) are often in battle. DarkStar Astrology writes about this aspect: "This could result in addiction problems where there are other indicators in the chart.....These people are highly strung so they do need to put their energies into something creative through which they can channel their restlessness."

Why Now?

Yes, the fact that he's facing federal felony charges for allegedly trying to buy President Barack Obama's old U.S. Senate seat would be a stressful situation. However, Congressman Jackson has been facing those charges for more than a year now. For the "why is Rep. Jackson Jr. having emotional drama now" question, we've got to turn to the transits on the day that Rep. Jackson went on medical leave (June 10).

Transiting Uranus (rebellion), a slow-moving planet which takes about seven years to transit an astrological house, is at a relatively early stage in Rep. Jackson Jr.'s 1st House (the House of Self). For the past couple of years, he has been more impulsive than usual (which ain't good, given strong impulsiveness indicators in the Congressman's natal chart). Even if he wasn't facing federal felony charges, Congressman Jackson Jr. would've acted out.

Transiting Neptune (dreaminess), another slow-moving planet, is transiting his 12th House cusp (the House of Self-Undoing). The 12th House rules psychological disorders and institutions (hospitals, prisons, etc.). Unfortunately for the Congressman, Transiting Neptune is in an early stage there and Neptune stays in a house for up to 13 years. Thus, it's gonna be a long haul for the Congressman, with a lot more trauma to come. To overcome his psychological issues, don't be surprised if Rep. Jackson Jr. turns to his religious faith or doubles down on helping disadvantaged people (Transiting Neptune in the 12th House also represents heightened compassion for the needy).

Rep. Jackson Jr. Must Keep His Escapist & Addictive Tendencies In Check

Rep. Jackson has a Sun (core being) trine (harmonizes with) Neptune (dreaminess) aspect in his chart. While this is a very creative aspect, it also means that he is big in escapism. People with Sun-Neptune trines often wish to be in their imaginary world so much that they go down the road of self-destructive behaviors like alcohol and drug abuse, secret romantic affairs, or other addictions.

Add his Moon opposite Mercury placement (another aspect showing a tendency to have addiction problems) and a definite pattern emerges in Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr.'s life in this area. I strongly suspect that the rumors here in Chicago that Rep. Jackson Jr. wasn't only being treated for bipolar disorder — but also alcohol/drugs — are true.
