The moderate-conservative Republican and former Congressman — who recently switched from the Democratic Party to the GOP — returned to his native Alabama. AL.com reports on his discussion of growing Republican dominance of Alabama's state politics: "The first is to your credit and to the credit of Republicans
who have stuck to their guns over the years, stood tall and stood for values
that most Alabamians share,' said Davis."
More: "But, Davis said the second reason for the ascendency of the
state GOP has much to do with his former party. 'Our friends in the Democratic Party -- I think I have one
friend left there -- pride themselves on taking positions that are not in step
with 75 percent of the people of Alabama,' said Davis. 'They stand on their
soapbox and take positions on issues they know Alabamians do not hold but they
tell themselves they are morally superior. You know what they really are? They
are irrelevant. And, they have confused irrelevancy with moral authority.'"
