| President Ian Khama |
If
you want to go hunting in Botswana, you best do it fairly soon.
Botswana's center-right president has long had a soft spot for
environmental issues, and he's cracking down on hunting in the southern African country. From the Botswana Gazette:
"President Lt Gen. Seretse Khama Ian Khama has announced that hunting
will be prohibited in 2014. According to the Daily News, Khama said
while addressing Sankoyo and Mababe residents recently that the decision
was informed by an alarming decrease of wildlife in Botswana.
Khama reportedly said there is a need to conserve wildlife stating that
the tourism sector will be affected if animals are not taken care of.
The President reportedly informed residents that the numbers of soldiers
and police patrolling game parks have been increased in an effort to
curb poaching."
